Town Council Meeting Recap:

Tuesday, September 8th

The Blowing Rock Town Council met on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, to discuss several matters affecting the community. You can watch the meeting recording in its entirety through the video link above.

Highlights from the meeting

  • Traffic Safety: Council approved three-way stop signs at both the Laurel Park Road/Dogwood Lane and Country Club Drive/Country Club Lane intersections. The Town will also refresh faded roadway markings in the Country Club area. Signage is scheduled to be installed next week at both locations. Public Works has recently purchased a new paint machine and has started to re-stripe roadways town-wide to include, Morris, Sunset, Laurel Lane, and Green Hill Road. The list will continue to be updated.
  • Future Trail Opportunity: Foothills Conservancy presented plans for a potential three-mile public trail on the 330-acre John's River Headwaters Preserve. The Town Council directed the Conservancy to discuss this plan with Planning & Zoning, as well as the Fire Chief to come up with a proposal for Council's review.
  • Parking Regulations: Council updated the parking ordinance to comply with new North Carolina legislation, taking effect January 1, 2027. Under the new requirements, parking ratios will serve as recommendations rather than mandatory minimums for new development, while the Town will continue to regulate parking design and circulation standards.
  • BRAHM Celebrates 15 Years: Council recognized the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum (BRAHM) for 15 years of service to the community and proclaimed October 1, 2026, as BRAHM's 15th Anniversary Day in Blowing Rock.
  • Main Street Updates: The replacement streetlights on Wallingford have been installed!
  • Town Policies and Administrative Matters: Staff continues working on updates to Town policies and procedures, including the personnel policy, which is expected to be presented to Council for consideration later this fall. The Finance Office Accounts Receivable/Customer Service position has been reclassified to a Deputy Finance Officer position. This position will strengthen the Town's financial operations, improve internal controls, ensure accurate and timely financial information, and provide continuity and succession planning within the Finance Department.
  • General Obligation Bond Project List Update: Several projects are slated to move forward.
  • The Pine Street Waterline Replacement Project is scheduled to start on Monday. Staff will be completing a walkthrough of the project area with contractor on Monday with roadway cuts to start on Tuesday. Work is expected to last 30 days with the roadway to be blocked off on both ends; however, traffic will be accommodated at all times. Pipe installation will be done in 100 linear foot increments, with restoration to be done by 5:00pm each day. Any special events will be accommodated.
  • The Park Avenue Waterline Replacement Project will start immediately following the Pine Street Project. Traffic flow will be maintained at all times. Pipe installation will be done in 100 linear foot increments, with restoration to be done by 5:00pm each day. This project is expected to start after the final Art in the Park; however, any special events will be accommodated.

The meeting concluded with Council recognizing the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, honoring those who lost their lives and remembering the first responders, volunteers, and families affected.

Fire Department Station 1 Roof Replacement Project is Complete!

The roof replacement project at Blowing Rock Fire Station 1 has been successfully completed!

We’re pleased to share photos of the finished project below and appreciate the work that went into maintaining and improving this critical Town facility.

Final Coffee with a Cop for the Season

Don’t miss the final Coffee with a Cop of the season this Tuesday at Carolina Coffee Company in Shoppes on the Parkway from 9:00–11:00 a.m.

Stop by, grab a great cup of coffee, meet some of our officers, and take the opportunity to share your appreciation, ask questions, or discuss any concerns you may have—big or small.

These conversations are a great way to connect with our officers and strengthen the relationship between our Police Department and the community we serve. We hope to see you there!

A Fresh Look in Blowing Rock

Take a moment to notice the new trash receptacles throughout Town! This beautification initiative, made possible through the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority, replaces all 77 trash receptacles throughout Blowing Rock.

This was no small undertaking, and the completed project provides a clean, cohesive, and refreshed appearance throughout Town. We appreciate the Tourism Development Authority’s investment in our community and their continued efforts to enhance the experience of residents and visitors alike.

Stop Signs Coming Next Week

The stop sign additions approved at Tuesday's Town Council Meeting will be here and installed next week. As these changes are implemented, please use extra caution at both the Laurel Park Road/Dogwood Lane and Country Club Drive/Country Club Lane intersections.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve safety throughout the community.
