IOWA TESTING

Monday, October 4th through Friday, October 9th grades 3-8 will take the Iowa Assessment. There are a number of ways you can support your child before and after testing. It is important to remember the following points to ensure that your child is functioning at full capacity:

  • Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep.
  • Wake up at a good time so as not to be rushed.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast.
  • Arrive on time to school.
  • Stay home if you feel sick (make-ups will take place the following week).
  • Encourage your student(s) to do their best, but don't stress.
  • Pray with your child(ren) in confidence, and remind him/her that testing is just one part of their total education
  • Please contact Mrs. Garner at 636-8922 ext 327 if you have questions.

Monday, October 4th- Thursday, October 8th, students are allowed to wear Spirit Wear with uniform bottoms. Friday, October 9th, will be a dress down day for all in celebration of completing testing week! Please avoid scheduling appointments during testing week.

If you have picked up your children from Aftercare the last couple of days, you have

noticed a large orange and white barrier blocking off the big flat and alley. This is part

one of the new Parking Plan we’ve been working on. The next step is to fence off the

small playground. I am not sure when that will be complete, but the idea is that when we

are done, we will leave the IN gate open and you’ll have the five handicap parking

spaces to use for Aftercare pick up. I will keep you posted.

Preschool parents with older students, please ONLY clock in your preschool children at

morning drop off.

IMPORTANT: Please send an email to bbartow@stpeterjc.org if your child(ren) will

NOT be in ASC. You should include, attendance and teacher(s). Also, if you are

sending someone to pick up your child(ren) from Aftercare and they are NOT on the

pick-up list, please send an email letting us know it is ok to send your child with them.

WE MUST HAVE IT IN WRITING.

Thank you.

If you need to reach Aftercare, you may call (573) 636-8922, extension 129 or email

Betsy Bartow, Aftercare Director at bbartow@stpeterjc.org.

Welcome back to a new school year! Every once in a while I like to put tiny tech tips in our newsletter to help you manage your tech from basic printer maintenance to helping your family become healthier and happier in a tech-heavy world. Sometimes I reference a post I've made on my blog, updates to my parent website, or simply a quick tip to help you in your day-to-day work.

This week's tech tip has to do with Chat GPT. Everyone seems to be using it, but is it safe for your kids? The answer is NO. ChatGPT was never meant for kids (anyone under the age of 18) and if your child is using it regularly, you need to be having open and honest conversations with them about the proper use in your house, how to understand red-flag subjects, and whether or not they truly need to use ChatGPT for their work. At this moment, ChatGPT is not going away any time soon (along with all the other AI bots out there!) Some helpful tips for those conversations:

1) Be "chill" - Don't let your child think you're upset with them or angry for their use of ChatGPT. You're on their side and they need to know they can land safely with you, no matter what the subject.

2) Explain the "why" about staying away from it at their age - Under-developed pre-frontal cortex, curiosity without content or guidance can lead to dangerous topics, and you should always be their first choice for questions!

3) Tell them you love them no matter what. Every single tech safety conversation you have with your child should always include the words "I love you no matter what and I'm here to support you".
