This Month in Jewish History

On Oct 30 1944. Anne Frank was deported along with her sister Margot and approximately 1,000 other women from Auschwitz to Belsen, where inmates faced severe overcrowding, extreme weather, starvation, a lack of basic hygiene, and a devastating outbreak of typhus. Both Anne and Margot contracted typhus and died in February 1945 shortly before the camp was liberated. Anne was 16. Their mother, Edith Frank, remained behind at Auschwitz (where she later died in January 1945), while their father, Otto Frank, was separated in a different part of the camp system and survived.
