Director Update - PCCAC Awarded No-Kill Excellence Plaque from Best Friends Animal Society

"We are proud of our No-Kill shelter designation, and we will continue striving toward this goal every single year, even as maintaining that status becomes harder and harder.

This recognition isn't just a plaque on a wall. It represents how far we have come. It represents thousands of lives changed. It represents a community that cares. And most importantly, it represents a team that refuses to give up on animals.

A HUGE thank you to my team, our volunteers, our rescue partners, our fosters, our adopters, our contracted veterinarians, and everyone who supports Pinal County Animal Care & Control. We couldn't do it without you!" - Audra Michael, Animal Care and Control Director.

Volunteer of the Month - Tammy Duenas

Some people walk dogs. Tammy gets them.🐾

Since June 2025, Tammy has volunteered at PCACC three to four times a week, giving shelter dogs the exercise, attention, and one-on-one care they need. She’s especially patient with dogs who may need a little extra understanding, and she’s always happy to spend time offering pets, encouragement, and companionship.

Her dream volunteer day? Walking in and hearing that every dog has been adopted.

Thank you, Tammy, for showing up for the dogs who need you most! Tammy is pictured above with seven-year-old Gus.

Representative Teresa Martinez Visits PCACC Shelter

On Friday, August 21, District 16 House Representative Teresa Martinez came for a tour after one of our volunteers, Colleen, reached out to her office. The visit was great; she toured our facility, saw the animals in our care, and witnessed the capacity crisis we are currently experiencing: more animals are coming in, and we have nowhere to put them. She shared some informative ideas, and we are grateful for the visit. Keep an eye out for her and her team for public dog walking; she thinks it is a wonderful way to help the animals, and we agree! We look forward to working with her

Pinal Pup of the Month - Meet Harley

Meet Harley (A285609)! Harley is a five-year-old, 47-pound, neutered German Shepherd mix who's been patiently waiting for his forever home since October.

Found as a stray, Harley's past may be unknown, but his future is full of hope. He's a sweet, affectionate boy who loves people and greets everyone with a friendly tail wag. Harley walks nicely on a leash, is gentle with other dogs, and is very food-motivated, making him a wonderful companion and eager learner.

He's past the puppy stage but still has so much love, loyalty, and life to share. All Harley wants is a family to call his own.

If you already have a dog, we recommend bringing them for a meet-and-greet to help ensure they're a good match. Could Harley (A285609) be your new best friend? Contact us at 520-509-3555 to schedule a meet-and-greet.
