2014 BEA WINNER SPOTLIGHT
CORPORATE CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD - PRINCE GEORGE CITIZEN
This month we are featuring The Prince George Citizen, winner of the Corporate Citizen of the Year Award. This award is given to a business, or individual, that makes significant contributions, through both time donated and financial support given, to the quality of life enjoyed by all in Prince George. Citizen Publisher Colleen Sparrow reflects on what it has meant to for the newspaper's team to receive that honour.
Chamber: Describe what it was like to hear your name called, and receive the Corporate Citizen of the Year Award.
Colleen Sparrow: We're pretty proud of that one. The community has high expectations on The Citizen to support all of the good endeavors done throughout the year, regardless of whether they are done by the private sector, the public sector, not-for-profits or individuals, and we work hard to meet those expectations, with our financial, in-kind, editorial and sponsorship support. It was a thrill to hear our name called.
Chamber: What was the significance of winning the award?
CS: It's always great to recognized, particularly by our peers in the business community. Best of all, the award was meaningful for all of our staff to see that all of their hard work and extra effort is appreciated by everyone.
Chamber: How has winning this award benefited the Prince George Citizen and the work you do in Prince George?
CS: This ties into the previous answer about the award being meaningful for staff. The newspaper business is challenging, so the award was a great reminder, both with our staff and with residents, that the Citizen can still do great work and be a meaningful part of the community - when the going gets tough, the tough get going, they say!

CITY OF PRINCE GEORGE SEEKS ASSISTANCE WITH SPRING CLEANING
In March and April of every year, the City of Prince George turns its attention from snow removal to removing a season's worth of winter traction material from City streets and lots.
"In order to ensure the fastest possible cleanup of neighbourhood streets, residents are asked to avoid parking on the street during spring sweeping," says Associate Director of Public Works, Gina LayteListon. "If sweepers have to maneuver around parked cars, this slows sweeping and leaves a sandy and dusty area once the vehicle moves." Winter parking restrictions remain in effect until April 15, 2015.
