Exciting news! We are in the process of revitalizing the former Westchester, NY WILPF Branch! You are receiving this email because you live in NY and may live in the Westchester area or know someone who does.
Current plans:
Formerly, the Westchester Branch sponsored peace contests in the 1980s and early 1990s for Westchester students. Past contests invited submissions of posters, essays, Letter to a Friend, Heroic Characters, Letter to the Editor, buttons, poems and more, on topics including: "Envisioning a Peaceful, Sustainable World," "Building a Peaceful, Better World," and "My Ideas of Peace on Earth."
Appreciating those early efforts, a steering committee is searching for a space to display an exhibit of the posters and quotes from the essays from the previous contests in honor of International Peace Day in September.
Looking towards the future, we're also planning to launch of a new set of youth peace projects for Westchester students in 2020, in addition to other activities. With the world careening ever closer to conflict and environmental catastrophe, there's so much we could be doing here to have impact in our own community and inspire our young people.
How can you help?
We would love to have you be part of the effort to reestablish the Westchester Branch!
If you are willing to be part of the new group, please let me know.
If you live in Westchester
but had been part of the New York Metro branch and might look forward to the sisterhood and solidarity of a branch closer to home, we invite you to join us.
If you live too far to be involved, but know progressive women in Westchester, please direct them to us!
Please call or send me an email,
so we can keep you informed about our next steps and all that WILPF Westchester is planning. If you ever want to attend at meeting or be active with us, we would be honored to greet/meet/work with you!! Let's get started!
May peace prevail!
