A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

A Season of Gratitude, A Future Full of Possibilities

November is a time to reflect on what matters most, give thanks for the people who make a difference in our lives, and consider how we can give back to the communities we call home. At the Art League of Ocean City, this season of gratitude has special meaning as we look back on what we have accomplished together and forward to an exciting new chapter in our history.

Every day, I am reminded that the Art League is about so much more than art. It is about creating connections, building confidence, encouraging self-expression, and providing a place where people of all ages and abilities feel welcome. It is about children discovering a talent they never knew they had, adults finding joy in trying something new, and community members connecting through the shared experience of creativity.

These opportunities exist because of you—our members, donors, volunteers, instructors, and supporters who believe that the arts make our community a better place to live, work, and visit.

This November, we have so much to be thankful for—and so much more we hope to accomplish together.

Building More Than an Education Wing

One of the most exciting opportunities before us is our Beyond the Walls campaign to create a new education wing at the Art League.

This project represents more than additional classroom space. It represents our commitment to reaching more people, expanding access to the arts, and ensuring that future generations have opportunities to learn, create, and connect.

Each summer, our art camps welcome hundreds of children eager to explore their creativity. Yet, we turn away approximately 300 children each year because we simply don’t have enough room. Imagine the possibilities if we could welcome those children, offer more classes, and expand the programs that serve our community throughout the year.

With a new education wing, we envision more opportunities for young artists to develop their talents, adults to explore new creative interests, seniors to build friendships, and individuals of all abilities to experience the joy and therapeutic benefits of art.

We also hope to expand our educational offerings with more in-depth classes that allow students to develop their skills over time, creating a stronger foundation for lifelong learning.

We aren’t simply building more space. We are creating more opportunities for people to discover what is possible.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the support of the Town of Ocean City, we have important momentum behind this vision. Now, we invite our community to help us bring it to life.

Thanksgiving: A Time to Give Thanks—and Give Back

As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, I hope we will also remember the importance of giving back to the community that gives so much to us.

A thriving community is built by people who care enough to invest their time, talents, and resources in something bigger than themselves. At the Art League, we see the impact of that generosity every day. It is reflected in a child’s excitement over a finished painting, an adult discovering a new passion, and a senior finding connection through a creative experience.

These moments may seem small, but together they make a tremendous difference.

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of our community to keep these opportunities accessible and to ensure that the arts remain an important part of life in Ocean City and the surrounding area.

This season, I encourage you to think about how you might give back. Perhaps it is volunteering your time, sharing your artistic talents, supporting a local nonprofit, making a gift, or becoming a member of an organization whose mission you believe in.

Every act of generosity helps strengthen the place we call home.

Giving Tuesday: Make Creativity Possible

On December 1, communities around the world will celebrate Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to generosity and supporting the causes that make a difference in our lives.

This year, I hope you will consider the Art League of Ocean City as part of your Giving Tuesday plans.

Your contribution helps us provide arts education, community outreach, exhibitions, scholarships, and creative experiences for people of all ages and abilities. It also helps move us closer to our vision for a new education wing that will allow us to serve more students and expand our impact for years to come.

Whether you make a special gift to Beyond the Walls or support our ongoing programs, your generosity helps ensure that creativity continues to flourish in our community.

When you give to the arts, you invest in people. You invest in connection, learning, well-being, and the future of our community.

Membership: A Gift That Keeps Giving

As we approach the end of the year, November is also a wonderful time to renew your Art League membership or join us for the first time.

Membership is more than a way to stay informed about our classes, exhibitions, and events. It is a direct investment in the creative life of our community.

Your membership supports the work that happens every day at the Art League—from educational programs and outreach initiatives to exhibitions that showcase local artists and events that bring people together.

As we work toward our new education wing, every member becomes part of a larger vision: a community where more people have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of art.

If you are already a member, thank you for being part of our creative family. If your membership has lapsed, we would love to welcome you back. And if you have never joined, there has never been a better time.

Consider giving a membership as a holiday gift, inviting a friend to join, or renewing your own commitment to the arts.

Every member helps us open more doors to creativity.

As I reflect on this season of gratitude, I am reminded that the Art League’s greatest asset isn’t our building, our galleries, or even our artwork. It is the community of people who believe in what we do and help make it possible.

Thank you for being part of our story. With your continued support, we can build a future where more children can learn, more people can connect, and more lives can be enriched through the arts.

From all of us at the Art League of Ocean City, I wish you and your loved ones a happy Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, generosity, and creativity.

With appreciation,

Rina Thaler

SUPPORT BEYOND THE WALLS

We have already received incredible support to kickstart this vision. The project is supported by the Maryland State Arts Council and a significant matching partnership from the Town of Ocean City. While these investments are vital first steps, community support is what will truly bring this vision to life.

We invite our donors, local businesses, and friends of the arts to join us in leaving a lasting legacy. Your contribution to the Beyond the Walls Capital Campaign is an investment in a vibrant, accessible space that inspires creativity, strengthens our community, and enriches lives for years to come.

Every act of support—whether through a donation, sharing our story, or becoming a member—helps us build more than just an addition; it helps us build the future of the arts in Ocean City.
