Last Weekend we talked about what it means that Scripture so often calls us sheep — not because we're impressive but because we wander, panic, and cannot find our way on our own. We heard Jesus warn about the voices that promise life but actually steal it, and we sat with the parable of the lost sheep: the shepherd leaves the ninety‑nine to go after the one, finds it, and joyfully puts it on his shoulders. We were reminded that the Good Shepherd bore our sins on the tree and that his voice still comes to us today in the waters of baptism, in the Word, and at the Lord’s Supper — so Psalm 23 is not mere poetry but the present reality for those he has claimed.
So when the old fears start whispering, "What if I'm not enough?" stop and hear the shepherd. Read Psalm 23 aloud this week, remember your baptismal name, and come to the Lord’s Table or to me for prayer and confession; don't try to be the shepherd of your own life — let him carry you and let us carry you with him.
