MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
Exciting news from the Ossining Elks Lodge #1486: Ossining’s own Matt Gullotta won their first annual Big Dog Contest this past Saturday by eating a record 5 ½ hot diggity dogs in just 3 minutes! Bill Votava followed him in 2nd place, and in a tie for third were Police Chief Kevin Sylvester and OUFSD Superintendent Dr. Ray Sanchez. Matt Gullotta, you are Ossining's GOAT food champion!

This was all in good fun – and as a result of this super fun event, the Elks Lodge raised over $600 for their charities. Congratulations to all the competitors– we commend you!
What are you doing on Thursday? OPD and OUFSD, with the help of the Elks Lodge & DJ Johnny G, will be hosting a Bike Day. Spring Street will be closed from Broad to Lafayette from 4:30 - 6:30 PM. Don’t forget your helmets!
In 2018, The Village of Ossining passed a local law regulating the use of leaf blowers, which includes the prohibition of use between June 1 and September 15 each year.

Gas-powered leaf blowers may only be used from March 1 through June 1 and September 15 through December 15. The noise levels from this equipment are unrestricted M-F from 8 AM to sundown (except holidays) and on the weekends (and holidays) from 9 AM to sundown. At all other times, noise levels shall not exceed 45 dB(A), with the exceptions of use within 24 hours of a major storm or weather emergency, as declared by the Village Manager.

During seasons when the use of gas-powered leaf blowers is permissible, no more than two handheld or backpack gas-powered leaf blowers may be used at once on any property that is less than one-half acre in size.

You can report violations during regular business hours to the Building Department at (914) 941-3199 and after hours to the Ossining Police Department at (914) 941-4099.

I encourage you to share this information with your neighbors and friends throughout the Village, as well as anyone who may perform landscaping services on your property. We are all in this together, and word of mouth will help ensure the message reaches everyone.
The summer so far has had a few hiccups with the weather and our outdoor live music … The good news is that as a result of that, Ossining gets to see live entertainment almost every night this week! Come and join me in enjoying this week’s live entertainment.

Please refrain from feeding free-roaming cats in public areas and on Village-owned properties. Many of the cats in the Village are being fed and cared for by volunteers through Ossining’s Trap-Neuter-Return program. The volunteers feed the cats daily and follow strict feeding protocols to help keep the Village clean and avoid attracting insects and wildlife. If you see a cat with a tipped ear, the cat has already been trapped, neutered, and vaccinated and is probably being fed. If the cat doesn’t have a tipped ear or you have concerns about the cat’s health or welfare, please call the Cat Protection Council of Westchester at (914) 762-1142 and leave a message. A volunteer will return your call as soon as possible. To learn more about Trap-Neuter-Return, visit https://www.alleycat.org/resources/why-trap-neuter-return-feral-cats-the-case-for-tnr/.

Thank you for caring about Ossining’s community cats!
Among other things, one key item is that The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve the 2021 Comprehensive Plan. This week, we have the final step in front of us to adopt, file, and distribute the completed Plan. We hope that all community members use this Plan as guidance for future development to protect our residents' health, safety, and welfare.

This week’s Legislative Meeting Agenda (Wednesday 7/21) will be in person at 16 Croton Avenue in the Board Room. We will also stream via Zoom for those community members/ consultants who wish to watch/participate from home.

Members of the public can view the meeting via computer or mobile Zoom app: https://zoom.us/j/99996809302
