Double the Impact: SLU Graduates Are CASA Advocates

Lucy and Alex are both students at Saint Louis University who graduate this month—and they’re also Co-CASA Volunteers! They’ve been on their case for over a year, advocating for three boys and a girl, ages five to sixteen. For the full story, check out our blog HERE.

Congratulations and best wishes to Lucy and Alex, and to everyone graduating this season!

New CASAs Appointed to Cases

This month eighteen dedicated individuals completed CASA training and were sworn in as Court Appointed Special Advocates. Judge Dodson said it best: “When there’s a CASA on a case, I smile. It means we’ve got a greater chance of serving the child in the best way.” Each new volunteer will serve as an advocate for a child or sibling group throughout their time in foster care.

If you're interested in learning more about becoming a CASA volunteer, please join us for a one-hour online informational session: click HERE to register or contact nsteinhoff@stlcasa.org with questions. Upcoming sessions include:

  • Thursday May 29, 5:30 pm
  • Monday June 2, 9:30 am
  • Thursday June 12, 12:00 pm

Judys for Justice: CASA’s Founders in St. Louis

The roots of CASA of St. Louis go back to the National Council of Jewish Women in St. Louis (NCJW-STL). Back in 1980, members Judy Putzel and Judy Milton were tasked with organizing and recruiting advocates for children in foster care. They got the program started, pushed for funding, and spread the word of the importance of providing CASAs for children. We’re forever grateful for their dedication and service, and will honor Judy and Judy at our 45th Anniversary Celebration on June 5. Read the full story of Judy Milton and Judy Putzel on our blog HERE.

Appreciating CASA Volunteers

We had a wonderful time celebrating our amazing CASA volunteers at our Volunteer Appreciation Picnic at Bridgeway Park this past Saturday! Volunteers and staff brought their families and furry friends to enjoy the sunshine, laughter, and connection. Chuck Gilbert, marking his tenth year as a CASA volunteer, was honored with a plaque, a round of applause, and our continuing gratitude.

With hot dogs and other treats, games and bubbles for the kids, a beautiful playground, and heartfelt conversations, we shared not just stories but community. CASA volunteers are the heart of our mission, and we’re grateful to celebrate their incredible work.

Kudos to Katie’s!

Thank you to Katie's Pizza & Pasta, and to everyone who dined in or carried out to support CASA for Giveback Tuesday on April 22! Katie’s donated all proceeds from all their locations to three charities, and we’re glad to be chosen as one of the recipients. We set up shop at the Rock Hill location, distributing flyers and stickers and speaking with guests about our mission, and enjoying an excellent dinner!
