Connecting Our Dismas Fellowship Communities

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It's hard to believe that another year has passed and another lies before us!

We are excited about the prospects for 2025. Two new Dismas fellowships are starting up in January. We also hope to see some others begin this year!

Memories of Christmas 2024...

Blessings in Brockville!

Although he couldn't attend the meeting, Eric Richards reports that they had a larger than usual attendance at their Christmas gathering. Moira Taylor provided a full turkey dinner with all the fixins. Tony Kiar brought the reflection about there being no room for Jesus to be born at the inn and posed the question "What if Jesus showed up at your door?

Regional Dismas Christmas Dinner & Concert in Guelph

Instead of having separate Christmas dinners, some of the chapters in Southwestern Ontario gathered for one Christmas Fellowship and Concert hosted by Dismas Guelph on December 4. Although the weather was terrible and prevented some from coming, 46 people enjoyed Swiss Chalet Festive Meals. We extended an invitation for host church members to join us in the concert, and many more came to hear acclaimed musician/singer Jacob Moon.

Afterwards, Dismas members and Church foks mingled in the fellowship hall for Christmas goodies and desserts. A wonderful, encouraging time was had by all with requests to "do it again!"

Happy Holidays From Hamilton!

Dismas Hamilton held their Christmas dinner on December 20 and feasted on turkey & ham and all the usual sides, and pies and goodies for dessert. The group sang Christmas carols, and Paul Tuck shared a Christmas trivia game. Jon M brought a reflection inspired by the Peanuts "Charlie Brown Christmas." Thanks to Robert and Joanne for preparing mugs filled with goodies (and Tim cards!).

Toronto Christmas Gathering

Dismas Fellowship Toronto had a packed house on December 13 at Danforth Mennonite Church. Folks from Knights of Columbus (St. Patricks) served up a feast. The evening was marked with fun and frivolity. There was animated singing and draws for prizes. After dinner there was a Christmas Interactive Play put on by St. John the Compassionate Mission.

Community Coordinator, Paul Tuck was delighted to be in attendance, and pleasantly surprised to meet an attendee by the name of "Brother Dismas!"

Dismas Sarnia Making Progress

Dismas Fellowship Sarnia continues to gain ground since intentionally connecting with the local shelter. Tim Riley reports that they continue to serve food at the Shelter, and then have their regular Dismas meetings on another night at Trinity Anglican Church.

Wonderful Warmth in Woodstock

Linda "Pepper" Jacklin reports...

We had our Christmas dinner for this year and although we are small, God is not. There were gifts for all and a great time with stories of previous Christmas dinners and reminders that some of us have been coming since we began in Woodstock. We are looking forward to 2025 and are expecting great things! We also had the privilege of giving 35 winter coats to the veterans. What a blessing this was for both the Commandos Veterans Club and us here in Woodstock.

LOOKING AHEAD...

Re-Start of Dismas Niagara underway!

Dismas Niagara will continue to form a Steering Committee and make plans for 2025 meetings. They will be meeting on Monday, January 13 at 7 pm for another formational meeting.

Dismas Fellowship KW is a GO!

Dismas KW will be meeting on Friday, January 10 for an information session and launch of the new Dismas. If you know anyone in the Kitchener-Waterloo area who might be interested, let us know!

PRAYING ABOUT NEW DISMAS LOCATIONS!

We are actively praying about Dismas groups starting in other areas. We are currently pursuing the possiblities of new Dismas Fellowships in Kingston and Nova Scotia. We are praying about a new Dismas forming in West Toronto, or Peel Region. We are also still praying about whether we can revive some Dismas groups that dwindled during the Covid 19 Pandemic.

NEW Social Media and Branding!

Carina Tran, a recent graduate from University of Guelph has taken on the responsibility of running our Dismas Social Media. She is working with our resident techie, "Tee Man" and Paul Tuck on upgrading our online presence. Carina has already started posting on platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn and networking our presence with other Restorative Justice ministries.

So please "Like" and follow us on social media! (Links are at the bottom of this newsletter) Let's get the word out about Dismas Fellowship!

We would love to post pics and happenings from all our Dismas groups! Email your updates to Paul, our Community Coordinator
