Brown is the IT color of the season!
It is everywhere in fashion, but those of us in the baking world (which includes the Eaters & Sharers) have always known that brown tastes classically delicious! Brownies are brown, chock full of cocoa, and they are one of the best foods on earth! I would contend that Cinnamon is a shade of brown, too, and its heady, warm aroma is like a big hug with “mom cinnamon-toast-vibes.” It is a stretch to call Pumpkin a brown hue, but so many of the spices that make the gourd shine are brown!
Fall foliage is awash with vibrant oranges, reds, and yellows – but the stalwart trunks of those trees is a sturdy brown!
Brown can be a perfect canvas to make other colors and textures POP! One of my new bakes, a naturally gluten free Sesame Tahini Cookie, takes advantage of the neutral tone with a blanket of toasted sesame seeds. In addition to being super pretty, if I do say so myself, these cookies are packed with the good stuff – made with almond flour, tahini, and some honey for sweetness. They are also softer and chewier than most of my other cookies; full disclosure, crispy is my jam, but I’m loving these.
My other new brown bake is a Pumpkin Spice Latte Bar with Espresso Drizzle. The pumpkin skews the color to Crayola Raw Sienna but that’s still a hue of brown, according to my sources! The bar’s flavor is boosted with another classic brown addition, espresso, which additionally brings a contrasting color to the treat. Get yourself a brown caffeinated beverage and complete the look!
