PSB Learning Collaborative #4

MACA is thrilled to announce the launch of our fourth Problematic Sexual Behavior Cognitive Behavior Therapy (PSB-CBT) learning collaborative. This initiative is a partnership with the University of Oklahoma and is funded by The Children's Trust.

Key highlights of this year's cohort:

  • 16 clinicians and senior leadership participants
  • 5 Massachusetts-based organizations involved:
  • BASMI, Inc.
  • Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County (A Program of JRI)
  • Children's Cove The Cape & Islands Child Advocacy Center
  • Omni Psychotherapy Associates
  • Inclusion Family Counseling Center

The first of four learning sessions recently took place at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Framingham. Clinicians were introduced to the foundations of PSB-CBT, focusing on working with youth exhibiting problematic sexual behaviors.

Concurrently, senior leaders began strategizing on implementing organizational and community changes to better serve youth with PSB.

Our Executive Director at the Victim and Witness Assistance Board Meeting

Our Executive Director, Tom King, recently had the privilege of presenting to the Massachusetts Victim and Witness Assistance Board, which oversees the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance (MOVA). This presentation provided an opportunity to showcase MACA's vital work and strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders in victim assistance.

Tom provided a comprehensive overview of the trauma-informed approach used by Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) across Massachusetts. He emphasized how this approach helps minimize additional trauma for child victims and their families during the investigation and intervention processes.

A significant focus was placed on MACA's Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) Service Enhancement project. Tom explained how this VOCA-funded initiative ensures that every CAC in Massachusetts has a dedicated CSEC Case Coordinator. He highlighted the crucial role these coordinators play in providing specialized support to child victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

The presentation underscored the collective impact of CACs across Massachusetts in providing comprehensive, child-friendly services to young victims of abuse and exploitation. Tom acknowledged the ongoing support from MOVA and its significance in enhancing victim services throughout the state.

The meeting also celebrated the recent passage of the VOCA Bridge, which secured critical funding for victim services in FY '25. Tom emphasized how this funding will allow MACA and other organizations to continue and potentially expand their vital services.

The presentation was well-received, fostering a deeper understanding of MACA's work among MOVA Board members. It also reinforced the strong partnership between MACA and MOVA in their shared mission to support victims of crime in Massachusetts.
