Did you know? The IMS Solution features Oerlikon DLC Coating!

The IMS Solution features a DLC coating resulting in the dark appearance of the finished IMS Solution flange. But before the DLC coating can be applied, each IMS Solution is made in-house at our Momence, IL facility out of chromoly steel that is further heat treated and then precision ground. Although we could have stopped there, we chose to go one step further. The reason we chose to add a DLC coating for the IMS Solution flange is to provide additional protection from extremes the part might see from cold starts to high oil temperatures. We chose to go with Oerlikon due to their experience with both Motorsports and OEMs. Oerlikon Balzers is one of the world’s leading suppliers of surface technologies that significantly reduce friction and wear while improving performance and reliability.

Specifically, LN Engineering uses Oerlikon’s BALINIT® DLC STAR coating for the IMS Solution which is applied at Oerlikon’s Elgin, IL facility.

This coating is a modified diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating with enhanced load bearing capacity. An exceptionally hard, durable metal-based layer (chromium nitride) provides the required surface hardness and increases the load-bearing capacity of the tribologically effective carbon coating and is used for highly loaded components typically found in diesel injection systems and for precision engine components.

We’d like to thank everyone for their patience and support during the last 18 months. During COVID there was a higher than anticipated demand for the IMS Solution bearing kits and we unfortunately ran out, but thankfully we can now report that there are limited quantities back in stock. Please be patient as we are filling backorders in the order received.

For those looking to utilize our IMS tool rental program, high demand might lead to delays based on the timeliness of tool rental returns.

Likewise, our IMS Solution Certified Installers should have stock of both single and dual row IMS Solution intermediate shaft bearing kits, so now is the time to call and schedule to get your bearing replaced if you haven’t already or if your original IMS Retrofit is due for replacement (be sure to take advantage of our IMS trade-up program’s $300 mail-in rebate).

As everyone is acutely aware of, there are supply chain issues that led to delays in filling backorders for the IMS Solution that has required us to adapt to the current situation.

The Napa Gold 1348 (Wix 51348) IMS Solution oil filter is out of stock with no ETA from the manufacturer, but we’ve identified an alternate oil filter, the Napa Gold 1215 (Wix 51215) that we have tested to perform just as well as the 1348. There is currently plenty of supply of this filter, but many have also asked what other filters are acceptable. As an OEM to Porsche, filters from Mahle, Mann, and Hengst should be good alternatives, as are Baldwin filters.
