Greetings!
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Ignatius of Antioch, an early bishop in the Church. As he was held captive on his way from Antioch to Rome to be executed, the ship on which he was sailing would, daily, stop into ports to restock along the two-week journey. Crowds would gather to see Ignatius, and even in captivity, he took the opportunity to catechize those in the crowds, teaching in faith and eagerness.
Catholic school leadership is certainly not a road to martyrdom (though a few stars are earned each day for a school leader’s heavenly crown). However, in this work, there are days that are more challenging than others. Nevertheless, even through trials and tribulations, we move forward, like St. Ignatius, in faith and eagerness to pass on the faith to our next generation.
With gratitude,
Nicholas
