Dear sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus, part of a growing repentance remnant globally,
Renouncing evil is called for in Scripture. And renouncing evil by our pastors and political leaders was a respected part of our nation's heritage.
The Eternal Word could not be more clear: " But we have RENOUNCED the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God." 2 Corinthians 4:2.
Our second President, John Adams, was direct in renouncing evil. To "renounce the hidden things of shame" not just privately but publicly, Mr. Adams, along with virtually all signers of the Declaration of Independence, as President called for national days of "humiliation, fasting and prayer."
Years earlier, when he was questioned how the ragtag Revolutionary soldiers, some without shoes, after repeated defeats, could conceivably defeat the mighty British army, Adams responded: " We will defeat them if we fear God and repent of our sins. "
Yet today, with rare exceptions, renouncing evil is lost among our "leaders" both in the church and in politics. Some are flat out clueless, not discerning the difference between good and evil in God's Word. Others are cowards, not wanting to offend their political base. Unless they repent that cowardice will keep them out of heaven: Revelation 21:8.
So, as we pray for those in authority ( 1 Timothy 2:2) it is left up to you and me, the little people in every nation, to experience His Gift of repentance as a blessing in our own growth in Christ, as we renounce and remove old evil patterns in our thinking.
We can then share that power of renouncing evil with others.
He's the soon-coming Bridegroom. We have to get ready as His Bride.
