More Than a Place to Stay

Earlier this month we were visited by Tom Ferrell, whose wife and caregiver Pam, stayed with us for more than 6 months in 2021 when Tom was in the hospital. While he receieved excellent care from his medical team at University Hospitals, Pam settled in at Transplant House, her new home-away-from-home.

Tom's transplant journey was a difficult one, and his recovery from a liver and kidney transplant was full of ups and downs. For Pam, having a community here that she could lean on made all the difference and for Tom, knowing Pam was safe and cared for enabled him to focus on what matters most: healing and recovery.

Tom never stayed at the House, returning home to Northwest Ohio directly from the hospital, which is why we were so touched by his visit last week when he was in town for a check-up! He wanted to stop by to see the place Pam called home and to thank staff and volunteers for the care shown to Pam.

For our guest families, Transplant House is much, much more than a place sleep — it is a community that provides vital support for caregivers and patients at every step of an uncertain journey.

Thank You!

Model unit similar to the 12 we will occupy this fall.

A huge thank you to all who supported our first-ever Day of Giving fundraiser in support of our upcoming expansion to 37 apartments this fall. We raised over $22,000, doubling our goal and ensuring that our 12 new apartments will be ready to welcome guest families with all the comforts of home.

Transplant House on the News

We had such a great time appearing on Fox 8's New Day Cleveland (especially Benson) and are grateful to the production team at Fox 8 for inviting us to the studio to share about our mission, the families we serve, and the vital importance of the support and services we provide to families at every stage of the organ transplant journey.

In case you missed it, you can also view videos from New Day Cleveland's visit to our campus earlier this spring on our website.

A Second Dance at Life

Lisa Vegas and Louis van Amstel announce the 2024 A Second Dance at Life Dance Champion. Grab your tickets and find out who they will crown this year!

Reserve your seat at one of the most exciting fundraisers of the year!

Join us at the LaSalle Theater in Cleveland at 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 25th for a celebrity dance competition and lively celebration of the second chance at life made possible through organ transplantation.

This year we will be honoring the creators of this event Lisa Vegas and Matthew Miller for their longstanding commitment to our mission and to organ transplant patients and caregivers. Since Matthew’s transplant more than ten years ago, this energetic and passionate duo have celebrated his gift of life by helping others on the transplant journey, promoting their vision of a day when no one goes through that journey feeling alone and isolated.

Happenings Around the House

Thank You, TRIO!

Thank you to our good friends from TRIO Greater Cleveland for donating a dinner of lasagna, pasta and meatballs, garlic bread, salad, and dessert for our community dinner! As the volunteers said, "The only thing we like better than talking to Transplant Recipients is sharing a meal together."

It's volunteer groups like these who help make this House feel like home for families on the organ transplant journey. Want to become a meal donor? Learn more and sign up here!

Birthday Open House at THoC

On July 17 we celebrated our 11th birthday a few days early, to give guests and local community members the chance to celebrate with staff and volunteers. It was such a special afternoon as some of our guest families shared conversations and birthday treats with hospital staff, local transplant advocates, and longtime supporters of the House. These past 11 years are all because of you. Whether you are new to our mission or have been with us since the start, thank you for helping us create a home-away-from-home for families coming to Cleveland for life-saving medical care.

Navigating the Caregiver's Journey

Weekly on Mondays at 3:00 via zoom

Wherever you are on your caregiver transplant journey it’s likely to feel like uncharted territory. While each transplant journey is different, there is a supportive community that understands the challenges you may face, grounded in their own experiences as caregivers.

Transplant House of Cleveland offers a unique opportunity to connect with other caregivers through the Navigating the Caregiver’s Journey program held each Monday from 3-4 pm. All transplant caregivers are welcome. Led by Annette Humberson, MSW, an experienced Coach for Caregivers, this meeting provides valuable support, navigation, and connection for those walking this challenging road.

So far in 2025, Your Support Has Made Possible...

Ring that Bell!

Travis and Karen Corbitt came to Cleveland from West Virginia. Travis was in need of double lung transplant. This past weekend, just about two months after his surgery, the Corbitts went home, grateful for Travis' renewed life and for the connections they made here with others on the transplant journey. While we will miss seeing them around campus and at meals, we are grateful to celebrate this milestone with them. #donatelife
