Exploring Goes the Distance!
Our Bell Gardens Police Department Explorers went the distance this weekend at the annual Surf City 10 in Huntington Beach!
With options ranging from a 5K and 10K to the ultimate 10-mile challenge, our Explorers chose to go big—and tackled 10 miles along the Pacific Coast Highway!
From the first mile to the finish line, they showed determination, perseverance, and the willingness to take on a challenge. The miles weren’t easy, but their hard work and preparation paid off!
Congratulations to our Bell Gardens PD Explorers on an incredible accomplishment! We’re proud to see you going the distance!

Troop 737 Takes on the Mountains to Sea Trail
This summer, Scouts and adult leaders from Troop 737 took on an incredible challenge: completing their 20-mile Hiking Merit Badge requirement along Orange County’s urban Mountains to Sea Trail.
The adventure was about more than miles. Scouts interested in earning the OC HAT’s OC Historic Trails Award researched five historic sites along the route and shared what they learned with fellow Scouts throughout the hike, bringing the history of the trail to life along the way.
The group made impressive time, completing the hike from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Their journey included stops at historic locations, including Irvine Ranch Historic Park and the site of the 1953 National Scout Jamboree at Fashion Island. By the time they reached the coast, a refreshing drink—and some well-earned rest—were certainly welcome!
For one Scout, the 22-mile journey from the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center to Newport Sea Base was one of his most challenging and rewarding hikes yet. Along the way, he learned valuable lessons about hydration, changing socks, stretching during breaks, and pacing himself on a long-distance hike.
With their youngest Scout just 11 years old, Troop 737 demonstrated that with preparation, teamwork, perseverance, and a willingness to take on a challenge, Scouts can accomplish incredible things.
It was a day filled with history, adventure, teamwork, and memories that will last a lifetime.
