Staying Healthy

Autumn Season is Vata Season

Ayurveda helps us move from season to season with wisdom and grace, supporting the whole system along the way.

We are moving from Pitta - the warm, dry season of summer, into Vatta - a cool, damper season. We go from  heat, intensity and transformation into coolness, dryness and mobility.

One way to do this is to bring daily rhythm into our routine, which often naturally occurs. Vata thrives in having a similar schedule each day.

Focus on getting good rest, doing some gentle, slow movements and getting out in nature to help regulate the nervous system. Any kind of gentle rhythmic movement is great, including walking, rocking, tapping or swaying. Vata is made of air and ether and needs this calming and grounding to combat our society’s high stress, anxiety inducing environment. A regular meditation practice is always the best anecdote for any of the doshas!

Move from the cooling foods of summer to warm, nourishing options, like root vegetables, squashes, and cooked grains, which will bring nourishment. Using spices like ginger, cinnamon and cumin will help with warmth in the body and aid in digestion. As vata is a dry season, adding in more fats from ghee, olive oil and nuts will assist in keep your skin and tissues lubricated.

Hydration, as with any season, particularly, vata season, is key! Here is a guide for vata season, spices, tea recipes, milks, and sweeteners. https://piorliving.com/blogs/vata/vata-tea/

One last suggestion is to bring in the warmth and connection of good friends and family. Surround yourself with those that make you feel good and calm. Find ways to bring connection and beauty from the season together! Ayurveda is here to support the body, mind and spirit creating harmony and well-being.

Of course I did not forget a recipe for an autumn season kitchari!

PROUT NEWS

Several members of the Prout Institute were active organizers and participants in the Willamette Valley Listening Tour, a collaborative effort to deepen relationships, support local regenerative efforts, and build stronger networks of action across the Valley.

Beginning September 2nd, this two-weeks long community-powered tour traveled across Oregon’s Willamette Valley—visiting organic farms, alternative schools, pond installations, green building sites, community gardens, eco-villages, and ecological learning centers. The Tour also featured presentations on regenerative education, natural building, bioregional financing, and progressive energy systems, with several of the presentations by members of the Prout Institute. For four of the days, the Tour group was based at Dharmalaya.

The tour highlighted people and projects that are working to restore the land and heal our relationship with it—and each other.

PROUT Topics on Crisis and Transition Substack

The Prout Crisis and Transition Substack now gets about 9000 opens each month. Our performance stats are excellent. But more remarkable is our article content. Week after week, we introduce Prout concepts, presenting them as powerful solutions to the crises of our time. It is a positive approach and an uplifting approach.

We take readers deep into Prout. Even most Proutists aren’t fluent in the Prout concepts that our readers encounter. Read the latest article here.

If you don’t already follow Crisis and Transition, start doing so now. If you know aware people whom you’d like to expose to Prout, send them the Substack’s link. If you have thoughts about the articles, submit comments and start a discussion. If you like an article, click the like button. If you participate in other Substack communities, make referrals to Crisis and Transition. If you have capacity, become a paid subscriber. Engage. This project is succeeding in getting Prout ideas disseminated.

NEW ON TEACHABLE

opportunities to learn at your own pace and time

Transformation Education Teachable site gives you the opportunity to take on-demand courses at your own pace. We now have 19 classes up on the platform covering a variety of topics.

Featured Class this Month:

Neohumanism and Planetary Transformation

This 4-part course focuses on the role of neohumanism as a guide for navigating the upheavals of the planetary transformation we are currently experiencing.

It explores the facets of neohumanism as a critical lens for discerning division and exploitation, and for envisioning a world based on life, love, and liberation for all beings. It considers significant social problems such as economic inequality, racism, patriarchy, imperialism, ecological destruction, and disenchantment as opportunities for intervention, transformation, and redirection along pathways that cultivate equality, healing, cooperation, justice, balance, and fulfilment.

Art for Service & Blessedness

"The artists or writers, before holding their brush or pen, should look around and assess the direction in which society is moving and the basic causes of its weakness. What are the “isms” that have supplied impetus to evil ideals? It is not enough to look around; they may also have to take a firm stand against the apparently irresistible forces of destruction.."

– Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Abhimata, The Opinion

Artistic expression has always been integral to human evolution. The artists spark the imagination and pave the way for new ideas to flourish. Can you imagine a revolution with no songs to rally the people? The energy stirring beneath the earth now calls us to connect with that Divine Source and draw inspiration to birth a new society. How will you use your creative energy to support that flow?

Wings on the Story - Karin & Anandam Perkins and Genevieve Mason

The story of the song by Kirana

I was laying awake one night thinking about the state of the world and what we could possibly do to help. I thought of all the difficult and negative stories in the news and how this weighs on us. Years ago I read a memoir of a woman who'd been abandoned as a child, and who had had an extremely difficult life. As an adult, she looked back on it all and saw how it had shaped her into who she now was. She saw a spiritual 'thread' weaving through her life. In this way, she changed the story of her life from one of deprivation and hurt to a journey that strengthened her and gave her empathy and purpose. I thought, we need to put wings on our stories so they can lift us up. I started writing in the dark, and this became the song, Wings on the Story.

Lyrics

Wings on the Story

Day by day through our lives, change is on its way.

We hold tight then we’re releasing, every season turns,

What’s forgotten is relearned.

Day by day through our lives, patterns are revealed.

Many threads make a weaving, songs that we sing,

Colors that we bring.

Chorus:

Put wings on the story, it’s there in your heart.

Working together we all hold a part.

Put wings on the story, rise like a dove.

Lifting together, murmuration of love.

Day by day through our lives, the unseen guides our way.

Fireflies in the forest shimmer in the dark,

Alight heart to heart.

Chorus

Day by day through our lives, others deeply known

Call out across the chasm, echo and proclaim

Your – true – name.

Chorus
