Prayer for Independence Day

Father of all nations and ages, we recall the day when our country was founded and we sought the blessings of liberty.

We ask you to bless our land, our people, and our leaders. May we graciously live within the freedom and liberty endowed to us by our Creator, and may we always seek justice and peace for all people.

Protect us from all adversity, and grant that, with every trial withstood, this great land will always be 'one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Office Summer Hours

Please note that from June 26 to August 14, the parish office will close at 1:00pm on Fridays.

  • Monday through Thursday: 9:00am–4:00pm
  • Fridays: 9:00am–1:00pm

July 4 Independence Day Holiday

There will be no weekday Masses on Friday, July 3. In addition, the parish office will be closed. The weekend Mass schedule remains the same at both parishes.

Summer Schedule

First Saturday Mass, Monday Oratory Prayer, and Holy Hour on pause for the summer months.

Restoration of Communion Under Both Kinds

In the coming months, we will begin to offer Communion under both kinds, the bread and wine, as a fuller sign of participation in the Eucharistic banquet. We must be careful not to fall into the misconception that receiving both species of Holy Communion is necessary. When receiving only the host, we receive the whole Christ—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. However, receiving Communion under both forms (when practicable and safe) is laudable and important because it signifies the fullness of Christ's sacrifice and the complete offering of his Body and Blood as mandated by Jesus at the Last Supper. Holy Communion by intinction (the practice of dipping the consecrated host into the Precious Blood) is not permitted. Only a priest or deacon may administer Holy Communion by intinction, and it is never done by a communicant or an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

Registration for Family Faith Formation (F3) and Sacramental Prep is Open!

Looking for a different way to grow in faith? The Brooklyn Oratory Parishes invite you to our monthly Family Faith Formation program. Instead of traditional drop-off classes, families gather once a month for a shared breakfast, prayer, and breakout sessions where parents and kids learn the same topics at their own levels. We are here to empower and support you in building holy habits at home! Sacramental Prep Registration is also open for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Ready to join us? Click here to register. For questions, please contact Joe O'Brien, Director of Parish Faith Formation, at jobrien@oratorychurch.org

SJAC Mentor Program

The Oratory Social Justice Action Committee (SJAC) is seeking mentors for 18–20 year old asylum seekers. These incredible—and incredibly vulnerable—young people benefit greatly when supported by trusted adults who can help them navigate life in a new city. Various parishioners are already serving as mentors/guardians, and there are opportunities to meet potential mentees at multiple locations and at different times of day, with online training also available. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact Lou Kuhlmann at lrkuhlmann@gmail.com

Cabrini Film

The biopic of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini can be streamed free through July 15. Click here to watch.

Summer Masses at Assumption

All weekend and weekday Masses at Assumption are celebrated downstairs in the air-conditioned Parish Hall. The Mass schedule remains the same at both parishes.

Mass Intentions

It has been a long tradition in the Church to offer Masses for people to pray, especially for the dead, seeking God’s grace, mercy, and spiritual benefits through Christ’s sacrifice. Usually a modest donation is given for this. In the coming weeks we have several Masses with no particular intentions. If you would like to have a Mass offered for someone (living or deceased), email the parish office at info@oratorychurch.org or click here.
