Negotiations with LA County CEO re: Vaccination Mandates
September 1: On Wednesday, PPOA representatives joined fellow Coalition of County Unions (CCU) leaders for another round of negotiations with the LA County CEO's Office regarding the COVID-19 vaccination mandates for County employees. Participants from PPOA included President Rhodes, Executive Board Member Coleman, Executive Director Quint and union legal counsel. The County, having taken notes in previous conversations have incorporated many members’ concerns which have now been presented in their FIRST proposal. All CCU representatives are reviewing with their legal counsel and preparing for the additional meetings with the County, planned for next week upon return from the holiday.
PPOA, as an organization, is a relentless advocate for the health of its members and safety of working conditions. From this perspective, PPOA insists on our employer partners to provide appropriate PPE, and follow the CDC guidelines as it relates to the workplace. Additionally, PPOA supports members utilizing the available COVID-19 vaccines as their beliefs permit. PPOA continues to negotiate impacts of the County’s Executive Order to mandate COVID-19 vaccination, because due process was bypassed, and members’ rights to employment are being challenged.
Please monitor PPOA communications for accurate and timely information. PPOA will continue to provide our membership with correct information as the impacts of the vaccine mandates are negotiated.

Transcript Requirement for Lieutenant Applicants
September 3: Over the objections of PPOA earlier in the week, the Department communicated to numerous lieutenant test applicants:
“The Department is aware of Lieutenant applicant concerns involving the 2021 Lieutenant Promotional Examination. The concerns involve the possible submission of fictitious degrees (certificates) required for the Rating from Record component of the examination. In light of these concerns, the Sworn Examinations Unit (SEU) will require each candidate to submit copies of official transcripts from an accredited college or university to determine the legitimacy of the degree. Copies must be stamped or marked "official" by the respective college or university and be sent directly to the SEU by the respective college or university. You will also have the option to hand-deliver sealed copies of official transcripts…You will have until Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 5:00 p.m., to submit your official transcripts to the SEU by email at seupromotionalteam@lasd.org or hand-deliver… If you are unable to provide a copy of the requested documents by September 30, 2021, a supervisory inquiry may be initiated. If any false records have been provided to the Department, the Department may initiate an investigation into any such allegations.”
PPOA continues to strenuously object to this change of working conditions and additional burden being placed on our membership. For more information, click here to read the letter sent to Sheriff Villanueva outlining the request for an immediate cease and desist.
