Calling the Shots!
Building Vaccine Confidence
|
|
The Equi Institute and SE Uplift are excited to host “Calling the Shots! Building Vaccine Confidence” in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority. It is to no surprise or judgment, that Black, Indigenous, and people of color are hesitant to trust the COVID-19 vaccine due to the decades and present abuse marginalized people experience from western medicine systems. This workshop is a BIPOC focused event where people who are hesitant or just have questions regarding the vaccine can feel safe and in community to ask questions, assess misconceptions and hear from BIPOC medical professionals and community members.
This event will be a hybrid meeting, we will have 15 spots for in-person attendees and the rest will be virtual with volunteer facilitators to create equitable participation from virtual participants. The 15 in-person sports will be filled through a first come first serve basis, based on RSVPs.

Hello dear amigos y amigas del Mercado:
We would like to invite you to be part of this year's celebration of the Día de Muertos at the Portland Mercado by building an Altar with your organization.
We are planning a two-day celebration (October 31st and November 1st) focused on this traditional festivity at the Portland Mercado.
This year the Altares exhibition will be in the market hall. We will have between 7 to 8 Altares. Each organization will have a space in one of the tables that will be shared with other group, so there will be two Altares per table. The space is 3' x3' approx.
The activities will start at 3pm Sunday 10/31 and 4 pm Monday 11/1.
We plan to keep the Altares during the week and we are asking people to collect any personal items by Friday november 15th.
Regarding the Altares, you can bring personal items, Flores, decoration and candles as long as they're encased. Those will be blowing them out/lighting every night.
October 31st will be focused on kids’ activities, with face painting, a movie and more. November 1st we will have music, poetry readings.

Portland Parks Foundation Small Grants Program
|
The Portland Parks Foundation’s Small Grants Program awards financial support to community-based organizations within the city of Portland who foster equitable access to our urban parks, natural areas, community gardens and community recreation centers. The program is founded on a generous bequest from Nancy Hebb Freeman, an artist, hiker and lover of Portland parks.

Our motto is “We help people help parks” because we know that our parks support so many of our personal and community needs. Parks can improve mental and physical health, serve critical green infrastructure functions, contribute to economic development, act as links in transportation networks, host cultural and social activities, and help give communities a sense of place.[1]
Yet many Portland residents still lack equal access to parks that feel welcoming and safe. They struggle to find well-maintained parks that are designed and programmed to meet their particular needs, based on input from their community.
With our small grants, PPF focuses on the people and organizations working to fill these gaps. We intentionally prioritize organizations supporting low-income populations, communities of color, and other historically marginalized groups.
Please see below for grant guidelines, deadlines, the application, and examples of past grant recipients. Also, please feel free to call or email PPF for more information—we’re happy to hear from you. You will find contact information below.
This year PPF will support 10 projects or organizations with a $2,000 grant each. Five of those grants will be awarded in the Spring and five in the Fall of 2021.
Application deadline: October 15th, 2021
