COVID-19 Research and Innovation Guidance
Effective March 28, 2022, the University of Windsor will be pausing Research Safety Committee review and vetting of COVID-19 research safety protocols, field research protocols, and Breach of Physical Distancing protocols. The University of Windsor has not yet advanced to Phase 4 of the Research Resumption Framework, researchers must continue to follow all institutional COVID-19 policies in place until further notice.
If researchers are conducting field work off campus, they are expected to follow any safety protocols in place at the host site. If researchers are conducting any research that involves breaches of physical distancing, they are expected to continue wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment and exercise caution with close contacts.

COVID-19 and the University Research Safety Committee, Research Ethics Board and Animal Care Committee
ATTENTION: The Research Safety Committee is seeking new members to join the committee. The committee is responsible for the oversight of research projects involving lasers, biological materials, radioisotopes, and X-Rays. The committee reviews safety permit applications, discusses laboratory safety issues, and institutes policies and procedures to help keep students, researchers, faculty, and staff safe from potential hazards.
The committee will be meeting quarterly in the 2022-2023 academic year. Students, faculty, and staff who are interested in joining and would like to learn more about the opportunity can contact Corinne Allsop, the Research Safety Coordinator, at rsc@uwindsor.ca.
As a reminder, the Research Safety Committee meets quarterly. If an application is urgent and requires review in between meetings, please contact the committee at rsc@uwindsor.ca.

Professional Development Opportunity: You won a grant! Now what?
Getting funding in place for your research project is a big deal and receiving your Notice of Award is exciting! Now you have to navigate the post-award world so that you can get your research started. This session, presented jointly by the Office of Research and Innovation Services, the Office of the Vice President, Research and Innovation, Research Finance, Human Resources and the Office of Research Ethics, will give you all the tools you need to figure out accessing your grant funds, hiring your research personnel, getting your project cleared, and staying on track with your reporting.
This session is perfect for early career researchers and first-time grant recipients, but is also a great refresher for faculty at all career stages.
FALL TRAINING ON THE ERSO RESEARCH PORTAL
The ERSO Research Portal is an effective one-stop-shop for researchers, signing authorities and reviewers, designed to streamline submission through approval processes. Users can login to one common interface to check the status of a certification application, start a new grant application, or complete review assignments - a true timesaver for users working in multiple roles. Researchers, reviewers and signing authorities can now use the online portal to perform their tasks in the application process from anywhere with an internet connection.

The Future of Work Scholarship Program
A new partnership between IWE and APMA to support students entering the future of automotive fields has been formed. The Future of Work Scholarship Program will award eight (8) scholarships worth $2,500 each, for a total of $20,000, to post-secondary students in any year of study pursuing a future in Canada’s exciting automotive industry in the following categories:
Engineering – including but not limited to chemical, computer, electrical, environmental, mechanical, materials areas of studies
Skilled Trades – including but not limited to mold makers, tool and die, millwright, electric and mechanical technicians
Cross Border Logistics – including but not limited to supply-chain management, cyber-security, GIS and sustainable transportation
Policy Leadership – including business management, public administration, international law and environment studies with an eye to application within automotive
Applications opened June 15, 2022 and will close September 30, 2022 at 11:59pm. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the 2022 APMA Annual Conference in Windsor, Ontario on October 19, 2022.

NSERC: Funding Opportunities for Natural Sciences Engineering Research
NSERC is taking action to help the natural sciences and engineering (NSE) research communities contribute to a more equitable, diverse and inclusive research enterprise, with the launch of the NSERC guide on integrating equity, diversity and inclusion considerations in research. The new guide is designed to assist NSE researchers with applying a critical equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) lens in their work by providing guiding questions and examples relevant to their field of research.
NNSERC Discovery Grant
The Discovery Grant NOI is August 2, 2022 at 8 pm. Researchers submit directly to NSERC via the Research Portal. Researchers do not need to send a copy to ORIS.
NSERC’s webinar schedule to support you in your NOI and full application has not yet been advertised. We will provide you with this information as it becomes available, as well as information regarding ORIS webinars.

PromoScience Call for Applications
NSERC invites applications for initiatives that promote the natural sciences and engineering (NSE) to Canada's young people, particularly to under-represented groups in NSE careers, including girls and Indigenous peoples. Please note that only one application is permitted per department.

NSERC Alliance Missions Grants
This grant facilitates collaboration between academic researchers and private-sector, public-sector and/or not-for-profit partners to address challenges facing partner organizations. NSERC has announced their Discovery Grant and the Research Tools and Instrument webinar schedule for 2022 to support your grant applications. See a full list of NSERC webinar offerings here.
*NEW RULE*: Starting this year, successful applicants and co-applicants (as of the 2021-2022/last year’s competition) are ineligible to apply as an applicant or co-applicant for 1 year. This is to increase access to RTI funding.
For both of these grants, ORIS deadlines will be announced via email in late August and are anticipated to be 1-2 weeks prior to the NSERC application deadlines. Internal Faculty-level deadlines may also apply prior to the ORIS deadline and will also be communicated soon.

NSERC Form 100D – Consent to Provide Limited Personal Information about HQP to NSERC
All NSERC applicants must ensure that they have a Form 100D completed for all HQP where their limited personal information is described in your CCV and/or your application. Find a copy of this form here with more detailed information.
NSERC and Mitacs have launched a new program to leverage the resources and funding of both organizations; NSERC recognizes all industry cash towards the global budget of joint applications (which includes enhanced HQP training delivered through Mitacs Accelerate internships).

NSERC Alliance International grants
NSERC announces the launch of the Alliance International grants, a new funding stream to support Canadian university researchers working with leading international academic researchers to establish and grow international research collaborations and projects of global importance that will generate benefits to Canada.
Alliance International is a new, permanent stream of Alliance. There is no deadline to apply and grants will be awarded throughout the year. Alliance International offers two grant types: Catalyst grants and Collaboration grants.

NFRF 2022 Horizon Global Platform Competition
