Elizabeth Hubbard wants our readers to have a look at this new book (out now).
No need to buy a ticket! But buy a copy of Theater Kid: A Broadway Memoir by Jeffrey Seller ($29.99). It's a smash hit! For fans of musical theater this book is a behind the curtain look at the life of a noted Broadway producer, growing up lonely in Detroit, finding direction at the U of M. And then becoming the life force behind Tony award winners, Rent, Into the Heights, Avenue Q and Hamilton. I give this book a standing ovation!
Under-the-Stars-A-Novel-9798217169863 image
Staffer Christine Ferdinand loves this new novel, out next Tuesday, July 29. Keep an eye out for it!
Under the Stars by Beatriz Williams ($30) This perfect summer escape takes place on a fictional island off the coast of Connecticut where a luxury steamship wrecked in 1846. It follows Audrey Fischer as she spends the summer on Winthrop Island getting to know the locals at the Mohegan Inn and keeping an eye on her mother Meredith, a famous actress hiding out in her family’s crumbing estate, preparing for her comeback role.
Alternating chapters tell the story of that ill-fated voyage in 1846 and its passenger Providence Dare, servant and muse to famous painter Henry Irving, desperately trying to escape capture after Irving's suspicious death. Romance, salty island characters, and family secrets will keep you reading until the connections between them all are revealed.

Great Books for Kids -- A Repeat

Last week, we had a list of our great children's books for summer reading. Because our website was being updated, many of you could not link to the titles. Here is a repeat of that list.

BILL HULSEMAN

in conversation with Alice Moody

Six to Carry the Casket and One to Say the Mass

Tuesday, July 29, 6 pm

Bill Hulseman appears in conversation with Alice Moody for a talk about his book, Six to Carry the Casket and One to Say the Mass. In it, he reflects on life, identity, and moving forward. He offers the unique opportunity for readers to start a new dialogue, to take an active hand in creating culture and reshaping the world, and to think about making meaning from formative experiences and relationships. From family dynamics and professional challenges that bolstered and battered him to the TV shows, films, books, and people who impacted his queer identity, Bill deconstructs the world that he inherited and begins to reconstruct the person he wants to become.

Pan by Michael Cune ($29)

The doctor says it’s just panic, but Nicholas suspects that his real problem might not be a psychiatric one: maybe the Greek god Pan is trapped inside his body.
