I’ve learned my business is supposed to be “nimble and agile” and that includes the EGuide (being on brand etc.). I guess it reflects the editor. Interpret either way you choose.
Just in case you missed the last edition, here is a link to it for you

My Dear Friend, Carol
It is with great sadness I write about the passing of Carol Norfleet, CMP, DMCP, on June 15, 2019.
Carol and I met in passing around 1999 , when we were both going through Chapter Leadership training for MPI. We became the chapter presidents for Tennessee and New Jersey for 2000-2001. We really connected in January 2000 and the bond went from fellow MPI member, Chapter President, and then we were asked to start teaching, what was then the CMP Boot Camp, at PEC and WEC. That led to us going to teach CMP in Beijing in 2011. Once you have stood on the Great Wall of China with someone—you are attached for life. As the years went on and we went through many personal and professional things together, we became sisters.
I always called her the Queen of Nashville.
Here’s what I wrote for the CMP Today Newsletter primarily about her professional life.
https://bit.ly/2LjCJqx
But here are the things I want you to know about HER.
Carol loved new experiences, having traveled to all 50 states and 7 countries with her son, Gabe. The trip to China will always be part of my heart and my life with Carol. Always the one to be looking for the best place to eat no matter where she was, she loved duck, burrata, bacon and margaritas. She was always dismayed I was not more of a foodie. I still do not eat duck, but do eat burrata. She taught me that everything could be fried from Oreos and Twinkies, to sticks of butter. A good Southern Girl she love a good barbecue, grits and buttermilk biscuits. And in January she taught us how to make “Crack Bacon”—bacon dredged in brown sugar basically, and good. Addictive like Crack.
She loved “fluffy drinks” from Starbucks. She loved bright color eyeglasses and clothes that stood out by color or patterns. She waited for Macy’s sales and could layer sales, coupons and discounts like you would not believe.
Her laugh could be heard wherever she was, but she also was not afraid to tell you like it was. Two quotes that came up during her Celebration of Life were “Suck it up Buttercup” and “Put your Big Girl Panties on and go do it”. Yep, she told it like it was. She had Big Hair, Big Voice, Big Presence, and most of all---a Big Heart.
She was creative and strategic, smart, a problem solver and wanted to improve whatever she was involved in. Her warmth was contagious, and she always wanted to help whomever she met ---and she knew absolutely everyone.
She would have approved, we believe, of her service. It was held at the Country Music Hall of Fame Theater, where she had done many events. We had a Run of Show timed to the minute. A great team of professionals who were also dear friends put it together. I had a very small role in it, but am very grateful. There is a link here if you want to see it
Carol Norfleet - Celebration of Life
Carol was a great Mom to Gabe. Their travels were legendary. She pushed him as much as she pushed herself, wanting him to be the best at whatever he did. She had him loading buses and working events since he was 14. She got to see him walk for his college graduation the first week of May, having completed his BA (Digital Video) in 2 ½ years. And since I would do anything for her---and therefore for him---he’s looking for a professional position. Email me if you want his resumé’ and demo reels (I swear she is typing this).
This loss leaves a very big hole in our industry, the CMP program….and me.

Balloons and Sustainability

So a few things have made me start thinking about sustainability in different ways. Yes, I have learned a lot about food production, transportation and waste. Water. Paper. But an article I ran a few issues ago about a meeting working to do zero to landfill, made me start thinking of other aspects that hadn’t even crossed my mind. Here is a great article on Balloons.

The Dos and Don'ts of What Industry Pros Should Wear at Events
Event and meeting professionals share what they wear for long, active hours at work—and why.
(Biz Bash)
I realize this is a very individual decision, but learning what others do, can help you figure out what is best for you. For example, although flats are very popular and currently very “in”, they are not recommended by podiatrists, because there is no support (search “Podiatrist Ballet Flats” if you do not believe me. Low (1 ½ inch or less) wedges or small heels still allow you to move easily, but give more support. And if you plan to stay in the industry a long time, things like the wrong shoes, can end up taking a toll on your body in the end.
And here’s more on footwear…

Deadline to register is Sept. 17, 2019

Career and Jobs -
They are not the same!
Are you looking to get a Promotion? Raise? New Job?
Stuck as to what to do next?
T
hrough the other part of my company, The Guidance Counselor for Grown Ups, I work with people and organizations to not only figure out what to do next, but also how to do it.
I offer Teacup Meetings. Buy me tea and you get me (One time only) for 60-90 minutes. Yes, we can do it virtually—gift cards are always accepted! I will not push you to hire me—promise. Unless you ask about working with me afterwards, we don’t talk about it.
It’s a great way to get that promotion, raise, new job—or deal with a challenging situation. It can be used to talk about CMP, but not actual CMP prep. If you are a business owner we can talk about your role in the company, but not the strategy in your business (that’s another part of my company and always glad to talk about that too).

Pretty much everyone questions themselves about their success—what does it mean to them, are they going up that path. To me one of the big keys is also asking yourself what you can do—not blaming you place on other people. This is a great article—I just reread it myself to nudge me along too!
