Memorials and Gifts Announcement

In 2021 the James Paul Haberkost Student Aid Endowment Fund was

established at Concordia Seminary St. Louis to honor Pastor Haberkost’s

service and his love for encouraging our youth to study for the ministry.

The Fund is invested by the Seminary and the income is assisting students preparing for pastoral and deaconess careers within the LCMS.

The Annual Endowment Report for fiscal year 7/1/2025 to 6/30/2026 is now available on the Church Website under the GIVING drop-down menu or by clicking the button below.

As of 6/30/2026 the Fund had an asset balance of $75,131, an increase of

23% over the prior year. Most important, the first distribution of $2,023 was granted for student aid.

Additional gifts can be forwarded directly to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis or through the Memorials Fund at St. John’s, indicating that the gift is for the Haberkost Student Aid Endowment Fund.

Thank you for your partnership in preparing future pastors and deaconesses for service to our Lord’s church.

St. John's is taking part in the annual DIAPER DERBY for families served by Caring Network. As a church, we will be collecting diapers, especially sizes 4, 5, & 6. Please bring in supplies by October 25th and leave them in Narthex near the Food Pantry collection baskets. Supplies benefit Caring Network’s baby bank programs, providing material goods, parenting classes, and spiritual support to new parents in need.

Do you enjoy fresh flowers?

Each week the altar is beautified with fresh flowers given by individuals of St. John’s congregation. Flowers may be given in memory or in honor of someone or some occasion, in thanksgiving of something, or to the glory of God. The flowers may be taken home after the Sunday services for you to enjoy at home or perhaps share with a loved one or someone you wish to share an invitation to worship at St. John’s. The Flower Chart for 2026 is posted in the narthex on the left brick pillar as you walk into the sanctuary. Flowers are $65 for two arrangements. If you wish to sign up for a particular Sunday and someone else has already signed up, we invite you to sign up in addition to another person giving flowers—you can split the $65 cost with the person signed up or purchase an additional two arrangements for $65. Multiple floral arrangements to beautify the altar are always welcome! A member of the Altar Guild will contact you in advance for your dedication.

SCHOOL NEWS

Be sure to read our WINGS School Newsletter! The WINGS Newsletter will be sent out on Wednesday afternoons on the first Wednesday of each month. It will be a great way to stay connected and see all the wonderful things happening at St. John's School!

Next Issue: 11/4/26

This week, kindergarten learned about God's promises and His love for all of His creations through the story of Noah's Ark. They also had some fun exploring the science of oil & water. They experimented with mixing colored oil and water, where they discovered, no matter how much they stirred, the two liquids just wouldn't mix together. They continued that lesson with an art project using oil and water, giving them another opportunity to see how they interact in different ways.

The preschool class hopped into a new lesson, exploring the wonderful world of pond life! They are learning about frogs, turtles, ducks, and other creatures that call the pond home.

The letter of the week is F, and the color of the week is green! Frogs were the perfect friends to help them learn all about the letter F and color green. They look forward to more pond-life discoveries as they continue learning about the amazing world God created for us.
