On June 28th, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed Congress's bill making Labor Day a legal holiday. As we enjoy this day with families and friends - I wanted to share some history (past and present) about our nation's strong and inspiring women leaders in the labor movement:
Thank you to all the women, and men, who organize and work for better pay, benefits, paid sick time, paid family leave, minimum staffing levels, schedule flexibility, mental health, workplace safety and other critical issues for workers and their families.
I also want to add a special note of gratitude to the thousands of public safety and city employees who help keep us safe and keep the city running. Our EMS, fire, and police put their lives on the line for us every day. Our city workers protect our health, parks, libraries, trash collection, water, electricity and so much more! Wishing all of you a safe and happy holiday!
