CALENDAR

At the direction of Bishop Gutiérrez we will utilize the readings and collect appointed by The Book of Common Prayer for Independence Day for "America 250". As Philadelphia is not only the birthplace of the United States but The Episcopal Church itself.

In our Bishop’s own words: “Our ancestors in faith in this diocese were leaders during that time of turmoil and uncertainty. Now, that leadership falls to us as we endeavor to live as disciples of Christ in this present moment in the life of our country, one that is marked by political division, upheaval, and war.”

ANGLICAN COMMUNION NEWS

Representatives from across the worldwide Anglican Communion are considering the Nairobi–Cairo Proposals at the Anglican Consultative Council- one of the "Instruments of Communion".

The proposals seek to help our diverse global family remain united amid serious differences.

The hope is for a more honest, representative, and post-colonial way of “walking together to the highest degree possible,” even when full agreement does not yet exist.

The Episcopal Church is a province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

The BCP is so much more than just a dusty relic of another time- it's analog nature might just be it's greatest strength in a hyper-digital world.

Your Vestry does not meet in July or August-- but that does not mean the work stops!

As a reminder:

  • The Rector's Warden supports the Rector in their ministry and helps foster communication between Vestry and Rector.

  • The People's Warden is tasked with communicating the needs of the people and parish to the Vestry as well as assist the other Wardens and Rector in leadership.

  • The Accounting Warden supports parish and vestry by keeping tabs on bookkeeping and financials and giving reports to the Vestry.

take 30 minutes out of your week for contemplative prayer and mass. it's a very holy time.

We gather in the lower chapel each week.

As has been our practice, we utilize the "toggles" in the Liturgy to express the seasonal tone.

You will notice:

  • Condensed with a worshipful tone.
  • Experiment: All music will remain the same each Sunday except the first hymn. This will help us all learn well and sing joyfully!
  • Take a listen to the hymn list below.

READY FOR THE NEXT STEP?

2027 might seem far away, but as we prepare for our Episcopal Visit in February, opportunity will be made for Confirmation, Reception into the Episcopal Church or Reaffirmation. But what does that mean?

---

Confirmation is a sacramental rite by which we "express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop" (BCP, 860). This is a public ownership of the gifts and promises of baptism and commitment to live an adult Christian life.

Reception leaves room to recognize that you might have made an adult profession of faith in another Christian Tradition (Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Orthodox). We would not repeat that sacramental act. Reception is for those who now call the Episcopal Church their spiritual home and want to live our their ministry in communion with this local body of believers, which is done by hands of our Bishop.

Reaffirmation is similar to those above, and is open to anyone who is already confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church. This is a chance to reaffirm your baptismal promises. Some make use of this after a deeper conversion to Christ or to mark a return to the church after a season of absence or unbelief. Some use it to mark a fresh sense of commitment in a new chapter of life.

None of the above is required for membership.

It is expected, but never obligatory.

If you're curious to learn what this might mean for you, talk to Fr. Josh.

We will have an interest meeting in the fall.

Mid-year is a great time to check in to see if your pledge is up-to-date. The work of ministry continues on even in the summer. Redeemer is singularly supported by its own people.

We do not take lightly your generosity! We all have a part to play in helping make Redeemer thrive.
