East Bridgewater Police Department Receives State Grant
to Improve Road Safety
Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department has been awarded $29,998.80 in state grant funding to improve road safety.
The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded over $12.4 million in funding through the Municipal Road Safety, State Agency Traffic Safety, and Underserved Communities Traffic Safety Grant Programs.
The East Bridgewater Police Department received funding through the Municipal Road Safety Grant Program. This funding will support road safety initiatives, including traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety, non-enforcement activities such as training or community events, and the purchase of traffic safety equipment or other community safety items, like bike helmets.
The EBPD plans to address specific issues such as speed enforcement, impaired driving (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), and distracted driving, while also promoting the Click It or Ticket campaign.
“On behalf of the East Bridgewater Police Department, I would like to express my gratitude for this state grant funding from the Healey-Driscoll Administration,” said Chief Jenkins. “Our priority is to keep the roads safe for our community members, and with this generous funding, we can make that happen.”

Historical Tidbit: Keble S. Wilbur | |
The skies were clear and the weather was mild on an important day in East Bridgewater history. In May of 1938, Keble S. Wilbur took flight in an original Piper Cub owned by the Brockton Flying Club from a former field in the town. This field is now home to a Subway sandwich shop!
The mail he had been carrying as cargo, stored in a small laundry sack, had been delivered from the former Town Post Office to the plane in the field by an old stage coach belonging to Eddie Kennealy. Keble S. Wilbur then took flight from the field between two smoke stacks of the original East Bridgewater Power Plant. The flight lasted only 25 minutes before Wilbur landed at the former East Boston airport, later to become Logan Airport. At the time, the airport consisted of 3 wooden hanger buildings and a cinder landing strip.
A group of about 40 community members cheered him on as he departed from the field, and fortunately all of this is captured on film available at the EBHS film library as submitted by his grandson, Brant Winsor, in the 1970's.

Climate Can Do:
3 Tips for a Sustainable Halloween
With spooky season underway, it is important to remember how our choices impact the environment around us. According to Duke University, a 2019 study found that discarded Halloween costumes alone generated 2,000 tons of plastic waste each year. Luckily there are many quick and easy tricks to help you cut down your eco-footprint.
Recycle Costumes and Decor
When it comes to Halloween, some things never go out of style. From spiders to skeletons to witch cauldrons -- keep your "old" decor to use again next year and save time, money, and the planet!
You might consider shopping at thrift and consignment shops or try something new and DIY your own costume! The cape from one year's vampire costume might be the finishing touch for next year's superhero. A pillow case can be easily decorated at home and makes a great trick-or-treat bag. Old stockings with runs and pulls can be transformed into spider-webbing. And cardboard boxes can be cut and painted to look like tombstones in your front yard display!
Maximize Pumpkin Usage
When pumpkins are tossed in the trash and begin to breakdown, they create methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. To help prevent this, try to use every part of your pumpkin this Halloween!
Pumpkin seeds, flesh, and rind can be used in a ton of delicious recipes such as pumpkin bread, pudding, pie, and more. For inspiration, you can look online or visit Delish.
Once the season's over, compost your pumpkin, mixing it oxygen while it breaks down decreases methane emissions and improves your garden's nutrient-rich soil.
Shop Sustainably
Shopping locally is also an easy way to limit waste. Support local farmers this season and buy locally-grown pumpkins; and shop local or fair trade chocolatiers.

Economic Development Survey
In an exciting new initiative, East Bridgewater has partnered with the Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) to provide the town with business assistance services aimed at driving growth and strengthening the local economy.
This funding has allowed the town to contract with OCPC, which is collaborating with the East Bridgewater Business Association (EBBA) to enhance local business development. These efforts will provide services that connect businesses with consumers, enrich the community, support new development opportunities, and position the town for economic growth.
To guide this process, a survey has been developed to gather input from both businesses and consumers. In addition to the survey, OCPC will create a Business Resource Guide, a Priority Development Site Inventory, and will work with the town to develop marketing materials and a business page on the town’s website. These tools and insights will help East Bridgewater align its economic development strategies with the community’s needs, supporting a more prosperous business environment.
