Silver Lake Regional High School 1976 50th Reunion

Silver Lake Regional High School, Class of 1976 joined together in celebration for their 50th Reunion.

With lots that can change in a half-century, the group gathered during the afternoon to share stories new and old, connect over laughs and find joy in community.

With shining smiles reflecting the warm afternoon sun, there is no better way to have fun than among friends of new and old!

Historical Tidbit:

The First Firetruck in Halifax

The first fire truck in the town of Halifax was not a truck at all but a converted passenger car. It was a Locomobile and carried only a few soda and acid extinguishers. It never made it to many fires as the fire was often out before the engine could be started.

The first real fire engine was a horse-drawn chemical wagon, which was motorized by the addition of a one-ton Ford truck chassis. Around 1920, George Harry Armstrong and Sam Thomas went to Cambridge to get the horse drawn unit, and they towed it home behind Mr. Armstrong's auto. As they came into town, Mr. Thomas was sitting up on the driver's seat sounding the two bells. All that is left of this part of our history are pictures belonging to the Halifax Historical Society.

Climate Can Do - Carpooling!

Looking for an easy way to save the environment and money? Look no further than carpooling! Seemingly simple in nature, the act of carpooling and sharing a ride with co-workers, friends, and others has a profound impact on both our ecosystems and wallets. Carpooling reduces carbon footprints and improves air quality whilst simultaneously lowering overall fuel costs, and in some cases qualifying eligible participants for tax incentives! For more information on carpooling, van-pooling, and other alternatives visit Mass.Gov.

Town of Halifax Increases Municipal Budgets

On Wednesday, July 29, a Special Town Hall meeting occurred to discuss changes to its upcoming Annual Budget for 2027. In the meeting it was learned that almost $700,000 would be returned from Halifax Elementary's budget, and that the excess funds would be put back into other municipal agencies. This includes the $140,000 for fire department wages, $150,000 for police department wages, and $50,000 for Council on Aging wages. The return of funds to other agencies will allow for much needed financial relief for various departments, which will help Halifax in the year to come.

Summmahh!!!

“Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair...” ~ Susan Polis Schutz

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”

~ John Lubbock

"Aaah, summer - that long anticipated stretch of lazy, lingering days, free of responsibility and rife with possibility. It's a time to hunt for insects, master handstands, practice swimming strokes, conquer trees, explore nooks and crannies, and make new friends.” ~ Darell Hammond

"People take pictures of the Summer, just in case someone thought they had missed it, and to proved that it really existed."

~ Ray Davies

As we grasp these last remaining days of summer, pause, breathe it in. The lush green of the full trees, the splash of the waves….

Summmahh, Summmahh, Summmahh!!!

: ) ~ Jacquie
