Hello FlyCo Faithful!

Summer is a great time for comics!

That means it's a great time to visit Flying Colors Comics!

This summer, with two huge comic book movies, makes it an even better time to dive into the great comics that provide the creative core of Superman and The Fantastic Four.

If you haven't seen Superman yet, you're in for fun. The Fantastic Four opens July 24 and I'm hoping we finally get an FF movie to radically increase the cool cred of Marvel's first family.

Some may remember I was working at KJOY-AM radio when I brainstormed a 1985 petition to have Marvel Comics recognize Stockton CA as "The Official Birthplace of the Fantastic Four." That led to my eventual move to the comics' biz after a short stint doing PR work for Stan Lee and his lovely wife Joanie.

To prepare for the opening of the movie, while putting the highlight on Stockton once again, I invite you to visit Flying Colors on Saturday July 19 at Noon for a low-key fun event.

Here's what we'll have:

* The last remaining copies of an unnumbered LIMITED EDITION Fantastic Four in Stockton print from 1986.

The print includes reprints of two newspaper reports from the '80s about the FF in Stockton campaign.

* Some prints will be also be bundled with a copy of the Fantastic Four 25th Anniversary issue from 1986 featuring Stockton in a story written by the late great Stan Lee!

Getting the Spirit

The big comics event of the summer is the San Diego Comic-Con, July 23-27. I am so honored one of our FlyCo Faithful nominated Flying Colors for the prestigious Will Eisner "Spirit of Comics" Retailing Award.

After a round of nominations including 34 very cool comic shops from all over the world, Flying Colors joins four other shops from the US (and Spain!) in the finalist category.

The recipient will be announced Friday night July 25. Whatever happens, we're just honored to be considered for the award.
