Mobile Shredder Coming to Tarrytown
Saturday, October 17, 2025
10:00am - 1:00pm
Green Street Parking Lot F
Residents can bring up to 4 file-size (10”x12”x15”) boxes of confidential papers per
household to Tarrytown, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for shredding. Please remove all large binder clips and covers. Papers from businesses, institutions or commercial enterprises are not acceptable and will be rejected, as will any junk mail or newspapers.
Important Information
Service at the events works on a first-come-first-served basis, as the Mobile Shredder unit can reach its maximum capacity before closing time.
It is important to be aware of what you place the paper to be shredded, no matches,
lighters or anything combustible. Staff at the events will be checking the material prior to being shredded.
Residents are required to stay in their vehicles. Staff will attend to you. This is for your own safety. No walk ups, please.
In extreme weather, events may be cancelled or terminated early. Please call the county's Recycling Helpline at (914) 813-5425 to check on a cancellation or early closure.
Kinds of documents to shred
Remember, it's best to shred documents you're no longer using, that contain personal
identifying information such as name, address, phone number, credit card number or
social security number. Such documents should be shredded before they are thrown out for recycling. Some examples are:
- expired credit card statements and receipts
- old tax returns or any other personal documents containing you name, address or other identifying information.
- pre-approved credit card applications
- licenses
As this service is gaining in popularity, residents should be prepared to wait as lines are sometimes long. However, the wait doesn't have to be that long. Come prepared. This means you've removed all metal clips, fasteners, binders, folders and hard covers and placed the papers loosely in a box. Hard covers – cardboard or plastic covers on items such as ledger books, marble composition books and hard-cover books – cannot be
shredded and will be turned away. Residents must rip pages out from hard cover books for shredding and throw the covers in their regular household trash. Up to four boxes of papers are allowed for shredding.

Phishing Scam: Remain Vigilant!
Westchester County is urging residents and businesses to remain vigilant following a statewide alert from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services regarding a nationwide email scam targeting individuals and businesses involved in planning, zoning, and land use applications.
According to state and federal officials, scammers are impersonating local zoning or planning departments by sending fraudulent emails requesting payment for land use application renewals or related fees. The emails often include invoices that appear legitimate and may contain publicly available information to make the requests seem authentic. Residents and businesses should be aware that legitimate correspondence will only come from official government email addresses, and should never rely on payment requests received through unfamiliar email domains. A government email domain should always end in ‘.gov’.
Anyone who believes they have been targeted or victimized should report the incident to local law enforcement and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.

Coyote Protocols
The Village of Tarrytown has protocols in place to deal with coyotes, which also provides guidance to residents as well. Wildlife like coyotes are increasingly experiencing a decline in their natural habitat and space to exist without interaction with humankind, which in turn means that they are expanding the areas where they live into the areas where we live. The areas a coyote and its pack may live cover a range from 2 square miles up to 30 square miles.
Below are the recommended protocols for dealing with Coyotes, based on recommendations of the NYS DEC. People should act in ways that will discourage coyotes from being attracted to their yards and property:
- Be aggressive
- Be loud
- Act in a manner to scare away coyotes when they are seen
- Contain garbage in tightly enclosed and secured garbage cans and containers
- Do not feed birds (the birds are a food source for coyotes; feeding them concentrates them in one area)
- Do not feed household pets outdoors. Both the food and the pets attract the coyotes
- Keep small children and pets under control and supervision, etc.
- Residents are advised that by law they must have their dogs and cats immunized with proofs of immunization handy. Otherwise if the animals have physical contact and/or fight with a coyote, it is possible animals could be required by the Health Department to be quarantined and/or possibly euthanized.
If coyotes are acting in any way that is dangerous, aggressive, with a lack of fear, or appear that they may be sick or rabid, residents should call the Tarrytown Police Desk at 914-631-5544, and police will be dispatched. If there is an actual attack, then that qualifies as an emergency and 911 should be called.
Please visit the DEC website for more information.

Devoured
Tarrytown has always been a thin place. Storytellers felt it long before Washington Irving put the Horseman on the road, and now there’s a portal on Main Street built to prove it.
Devoured carries books that transport you to other worlds and handmade goods from makers who still believe in everyday magic. Whether you need a gift for the friend who got you into Fourth Wing, you’ve read every Dungeon Crawler Carl twice and keep a D20 in your pocket, or you want to be the only one at the baby shower with a Baby Mothman book and plushie, you belong here.
We know October belongs to the Headless Horseman and the crowds that follow him—so on November 20–22, we’re hosting a Grand Opening Weekend just for our neighbors, and we’d love for you to be the first through the door.
