What is Plastic Free July?

Plastic Free July is a shared global movement (you may have seen the hashtag circulating around) that helps millions of people reduce plastic waste through simple, everyday choices and be part of the solution to plastic pollution. That way, we can enjoy cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.

If this sounds intimidating or feels impossible, start SMALL!

Some small "plastic free" habits you can try:

Bring your own coffee thermos or water bottle
Remember to grab a re-usable grocery bag on your way out to run errands. BT offers a very cute collapsible bag as a freebie option with your deliveries, if you want one!
Choose loose produce at the store or shop at your local farmers' market and put it directly into your re-usable bag (see above tip for remembering to grab a bag before you leave the house! This is key!)
Finish a jar of jam? Clean it out and save to use for future food storage! Some people might call it hoarding, others will be impressed by your glorious stock of re-used glass containers! 😉
Go to your local "refill" store! YES in Belmont even has "happy hour" refill deals on Thursdays from 5-6pm.
Instead of throwing away and replacing damaged items, see if you can repair them! Youtube has great tutorials if you want to give it a try yourself (you might be surprised by how smart and skilled you already are!), or look around your community to see if they have a repair cafe or find a professional. Fixing what you have is always a more sustainable option and way more satisfying than clicking "CHECK OUT"!
See how long you can simply GO WITHOUT new things or spending any money. Borrow whatever you put in your Am@z0n cart from a friend, or the library, or you might realize you don't need it at all!

The Basil Bin! Everyone's favorite green bin.

a FREE opt-in service, providing you a heavy duty bin with your delivery for you to fill with your used platters, bowls, lids, beverage dispensers, and serving utensils. We then come back and pick up the bin the next business day so that we can sanitize and reuse the returnable items and save them from ending up in the waste stream.

Compostable paper goods!

We think it would be great if it became more of a norm for people to bring their own utensils and things with them during the day, but at this juncture in time, we are providing the best option available- BPI certified compostables.
