May's Artist of the Month

During the month of May, we'll be showing "Assembled Identities: Interchanging Roles Within Community", an interactive mixed-media work composed of nine interchangeable panels that can be rearranged to form shifting human figures by Heather Harris.

"Assembled Identities" Heads, torsos, and lower bodies can be recombined, creating provisional identities that are never fixed or complete. The work reflects the fragmented nature of contemporary life, where we move between roles - professional, caregiver, friend, citizen - constantly adjusting ourselves to fit different expectations. No single configuration is definitive; each one holds tension, awkwardness, and possibility.

Heather Harris is a licensed counselor and board-certified art therapist based in Boston, Massachusetts. A Hudson Valley native, she was also educated locally and brings an interdisciplinary background in art and psychology to her work. She is also the founder of the non-profit organization Saints & Scholars, Inc., which combines service learning ("Saints") and educational initiatives ("Scholars") for teens and young adults to support community-based art programming.

We are always looking for new artists who want to display their work in the Library! Please email programs@pvlibrary.org for more information.

w/ Prudi Garcia-Renart and Terry Champlin

Friday, May 8th @ 6pm

"The Timeless Spoon River" combines classic poetry from “Spoon River Anthology” read by Prudi Garcia Renart with classical guitar music written to accompany them by Terry Champlin. These little vignettes by Edgar Lee Masters were considered a major event in American literature when they were first published in 1915 and resonate as strongly today. Prudi’s many years as an actress allow her to capture the universal aspects of the characters.
