Dear Friends,

Despite the pandemic, we were delighted to be able to launch a new program this fall. We expanded our work with Native American high school students on the Navajo Nation to create a new program that provides a variety of supports for these students as they navigate their first year in college. Our goal is to boost Native American college graduation rates, and the place to start is helping students in their often challenging first year.

This has been such a challenging year for Reader to Reader, as it has been for so many nonprofit organizations, and despite numerous hurdles, we are pleased to have made a meaningful impact in bringing resources to schools, public libraries, and community groups at a time of tremendous need. Looking back, we provided a broader array of resources than we ever anticipated, including providing PPE.

We are looking forward to a brighter 2021!

As always, your donation of any size is greatly appreciated. We need your support!

Best,

Reader to Reader Launches New Scholarship Fund
New Scholarship Fund Helps With College Costs

We are delighted to announce Reader to Reader's new Blueprint for Success SW College Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to Native American students in New Mexico in their first year of college and first year of graduate school.

The scholarship helps students with the cost of tuition, and also much-needed resources, including textbooks and computers.

The scholarship is a key component in our new Reader to Reader program that provides one-to-one support that includes weekly communications by email and phone to give much-needed advising, and a wide range of resource donations.

Navajo Nation Librarian Prepares to Retire
A Tireless Worker for Literacy on the Navajo Nation

It has been a great honor to work closely with Irving Nelson, the director of the Navajo Nation library. Working together, we have delivered hundreds of thousands of books to all corners of the 27, 000 square-mile Navajo Nation in Arizona and New Mexico.

A more dedicated person does not exist, and as he prepares to retire, we want to highlight his tireless devotion to literacy, and wish him well in his well-earned retirement.

A Message For Our Valued Book Donors
Drop-Off Donations on Hold

Sadly, for now, we are unable to take in book donations at our office at Amherst College, as the campus is closed to outside visitors. We hope to be able to restart accepting drop-off donations in the fall of 2021. We thank you for your patience. We miss seeing you!
