Greetings!

Summer of '26

... how did it rush by so fast?

Summer at Maryholme was full of wonder. With so much rain, the gardens are still grinning with a multitude of colours, and the forest is thriving. We were also full of people seeking solace and joy – easier to locate in all the beauty. We launched the summer by celebrating our 25th Anniversary – and what a blessed celebration it was. As we begin the fall season we are pleased that our schedule of 2027 retreats is out (though one or two may yet be added), along with some other new initiatives. We hope to see you here soon.

Announcing new date for Caregivers Retreat in 2027

A few unavoidable conflicts caused us to reschedule the Caregivers Retreat to April 2027. Please be sure to tell any caregivers you know about this. Their need for their own care and sustenance s great and we don’t want anyone to miss it. As with all our retreats, financial support is available through our Namaste Fund – donated by others who want everyone to be able to make a retreat.

Thanks to Tony Lin for his kind words. Maryholme has been offering free Sunday Sunset Tai Chi for many years now and we are so grateful to Tony for generously sharing his expertise with the community. In 2025 we added a couple of special Sunday evening centre tours following Tai Chi sessions by our director Yvonne Prowse which have been enjoyed by the attendees again this summer, an added feature we will be highlighting in 2027 again! We are blessed that the Tai Chi attendees have enjoyed these sessions under the setting sun and we invite you to join us again next year!

Maryholme News...

Thanks to all who made our

25th Anniversary Celebration a joy!

Gratitude unending to all who joined in on June 6. The grounds are still reverberating with love and joy. Over 200 people gathered for a day filled with awe and wonder, from the opening ceremony to cutting the cake. The photos below give some highlights.

The gratitude and blessing ceremony included a meditative litany of the creatures who make their home here, and a lively blessing of everyone gathered with water from lake Simcoe. Throughout the day, individuals blessed and placed natural stones to create a unique mosaic bench for the land. Mayor Margaret Quirk praised Maryholme’s contributions to Georgina, and with our founder Sr. Jane McDonell CJ cut an anniversary ribbon. The auction and raffle added several thrills to the day.

The capstone of the day was Dr. Diana Beresford-Kroeger’s presentation. She enraptured the audience with her seamless weaving of botany, medical science and spirituality, presented with tremendous warmth and care for us all. What a remarkable woman… a world-recognized botanist, medical biochemist, author, and climate visionary, with two PhDs (biochemisty and biology) as well as a masters in botany, she has made significant discoveries that advanced medical science and cancer treatment. Listening to her gave us all a place for our anxiety about the planet, and support for our hopes and visions in very practical ways. For example, she urged us all to go to a forest with white pine trees every month, and breathe deeply for 15 minutes… because white pines emit cells into the air that protect us from cancer. This was Dr. Beresford-Kroeger’s first visit, let alone presentation, in Georgina. We thank the Town of Georgina for a grant that helped fund this.

There are so many friends to thank.

The outpouring of support from individuals and businesses was truly astounding. See the list below of the local businesses and artists who contributed; please support them. Sponsors are also listed on our website.

Guests' Comments

"This is a place that is sacred. It is lovingly cared for inside the mansion and cabins and outside with the lovely labyrinth and every tree, shrub and flower. The inside of Blackbird Cabin is from a time almost forgotten; solid, thoughtful, generous, beautiful, functional and warm hearted and welcoming."

"The (writing) retreat was exceptional - well organized, with the content true to the description. The grounds and accommodations supported the ability to take time to pause and reflect, and provided a clam and peaceful experience. The meals were exceptional. What I didn't expect to happen during this retreat was an awakening of something I didn't know was asleep - through journaling, walking the grounds and reflecting during the meditative walks, maintaining silence - all of this culminated to make this experience beyond my expectations. Thank you!"

"This is my favourite place to come for reconnecting with my spiritual self. And Yvonne is a precious gift to help me through... and go deeper. The land here is sacred and I feel it. All the care, history, wisdom - I'm here to learn from it and it never fails to amaze me. Will return soon. Sasha is also so lovely. Thoughtful and delicious meals prepared with her love and attention. So grateful to have the experience."

"I have never felt more free to explore various aspects of spirituality than I do when I'm here. No one has ever made it feel overly "religious" or as if they even intended to "push" a certain belief. The space that is held here is so sacred, so inviting and so safe - for everyone. And I truly receive that 💙 Thank you.

As we enjoy this Thanksgiving time, we mention special gratitude for Women Farmers. The United Nations dedicated 2026 as the year of the woman farmer.

"Women play essential roles across agrifood systems, producing, processing and trading food that sustains families, communities and economies." (from FAO.org)

We give special thanks to all our local women farmers, with a shout out to Halyna, Zandra and the Elmgrove Farmers' Collective in Sutton, who are among our 25th anniversary sponsors. We highly recommend a visit to their farm one Saturday before the season ends, for gorgeous organic veggies. It's a beautiful farm.
