In 2022, the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance had an immensely productive year and has ambitious goals as well as great anticipation for another successful year in 2023! To continue the momentum into the New Year, the 9/11 Trail needs your help more than ever. Please consider giving to the Alliance this holiday season and together, we can continue the development of the 9/11 Trail that serves as a lasting symbol of our nation’s resiliency.

In March, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) joined trail supporters and government officials at Bowmans Hill Wildflower Preserve to announce the official designation of the 9/11 National Memorial Trail as a Statewide Major Greenway. The designation was sought and supported in a combined effort by the DCNR, September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance, the 25 Pennsylvania counties through which the route passes, and the 18 existing trails that share alignments with the 9/11 Trail. Achieving this status will provide the Trail and the Alliance with greater funding opportunities and increased awareness of the 9/11 Trail throughout Pennsylvania.
Our team and programs relied on support in 2022.
1. In August, the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance promoted new leadership from within the organization and welcomed Jeffrey McCauley, as the organization’s new President. McCauley who previously served as the organization’s Director of Trail Development is motivated to guiding the Alliance forward. Former Alliance president, Thomas Baxter, transitioned to the Board of Directors where he will continue to be a wealth of knowledge for McCauley as he takes over the organization and leads it into 2023 and beyond.

2. The 9/11 National Memorial Trail hosted its fourth annual Tour de Trail on September 23, 2022 – a 24-mile bike ride from Berlin, PA to the Flight 93 National Memorial, and back. This year, participants welcomed the opportunity to hear the "Story of Flight 93," provided by an Interpretative Ranger from the National Park Service that discussed how Flight 93 fits into the greater context of September 11. The Alliance welcomed more than 130 cyclists for a magnificent day of journeying and reflection. The 2022 Tour de Trail was the Alliance's most successful to date and we hope to continue that success as we gear up for the fifth annual Tour de Trail in 2023.

3. The September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance and WM, formerly known as Waste Management are proud to announce a new major community partnership. On November 30 at Washington Crossing State Park, the Alliance was presented with a $50,000 check and a formal commitment from WM to help further the mission of the Alliance, increase awareness and support local communities.
"Working together, the vision for the future aligns in supporting the development of a trail in several communities throughout the Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Virginia and Washington D.C. areas," said September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance chair Andy Hamilton." The Alliance is honored for this partnership."

A promising 2023 is ahead with your generosity.
The Alliance has many exciting goals and opportunities to look forward to in 2023. Engagement and partnership with the National Park Service is what the organization is looking forward to the most. Additionally, save the date now as the 2023 Tour de Trail: Berlin to Flight 93 National Memorial is scheduled for September 30, 2023. Also, for the first time, the Alliance is thrilled to announce that the Tour de Trail event will be expanding in 2023 to include a separate event at the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia in September 2023. On top of the September remembrance events, the Alliance will host an additional ride along the 9/11 Trail in Pennsylvania.
Stay tuned for more information regarding 2023 events on the 9/11 Trail by checking our website or connecting with us on social media.
Furthermore in 2023, The Alliance is undertaking a GAP Analysis sponsored by a grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. This year long analysis will provide a roadmap for the future resources needed to complete the Trail in Pennsylvania. The state of Pennsylvania encompasses a vast majority of the 9/11 Trail as it passes through 25 counties and counts for approximately 900 miles of the over 1,300-mile alignment of the September 11th National Memorial Trail.
The September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance needs your help now more than ever to continue this year’s remarkable momentum. Help us kick off our 2023 efforts by making a contribution today to the continuing development of the 9/11 Trail that serves as a commemorative tribute to the fallen heroes of September 11, 2001.
