Literacy Alliance Students Take Flight!

The Summer was a time of celebration for many Literacy Alliance students. We held the latest Celebration of Success with the theme of being "Rooted in Growth."

Over 300 students, teachers, volunteers, and supporters attended the event at the Jessie Ball duPont Center. We celebrated over 80 GED graduates, 21 job certifications, and 746 literacy gains!

Another ceremony is being planned for December! Stay tuned for more details.

The Literacy Alliance's recent Student Celebration recognized students meeting many different learning goals including GED attainment and reading skill gains!

Back to School Looks Different

Back-to-school days look very different for adult learners with children.

At the Literacy Alliance, we recognize that parents are the child's first teacher. But we also recognize that parents are often learners themselves, and the whole family deserves support to reach their learning goals.

Tenikka Hughes of Fox30 Action News Jax recently highlighted one of our students, her family, and their experiences learning together. Follow this link to watch the full story!

Kenmeisha and her children were featured on Action News Jax as a model of families learning together!

Parents are learners too!

Outreach Drives Enrollment!

How does the Literacy Alliance keep hitting new enrollment records? Over the spring and summer, we supported over 60 outreach events! These included everything from Family Literacy Nights, Back to School Events, Fall and Spring Festivals, and more!

Community events help us engage new volunteers and recruit new students. We couldn't be at these events without the staff and volunteer support -- spreading the word about our services and programming.

The Outreach Team is always looking for new students, new volunteers, and donors!

Supporting Family Litearcy

The Literacy Alliance is a Regional Partner of the New Worlds Reading Program -- Florida’s free at-home literacy program that helps eligible VPK - 5th grade students strengthen literacy skills and nurture a lifelong love of reading.

Last year, in partnership with the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning, we enrolled over 100 children in the New Worlds Reading Program and provided eight Family Literacy Nights with parent workshops on early learning.

We get very positive reports from the families. Kids are excited to receive a package addressed to them in the mail! Parents love to apply some of the skills they learn and read together with their children.

Excitement abounds when children sign up for the New Worlds Reading Program!

Adult Learner Back-to-School Drive!

Adults go back to school too! You can support a back to school drive for adult learners also. There are two easy ways to help:

  • Shop your favorite local stores during their Back-to-School sales and drop supplies off at our office at 40 E. Adams St, Suite 215 Jacksonville, FL 32202

Thank you for supporting our students, teachers, and the learning opportunities that strengthen our community!

Adult learners love new supplies too! Help stock them up today!
