Mayor Mobolade Misinformation, Springs City Budget Announced, Governor Polis Wants His Train, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Back in August, Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade repeatedly told people that his request to keep TABOR refunds to fund a new police academy would not impact renters, because renters would not receive a TABOR refund anyway. He was incorrect. Renters would definitely receive TABOR refunds. Why hasn’t he corrected the record? Why hasn’t media asked him to correct the record? Read our latest original article for more details.

  • Also in Colorado Springs Mayor news, Mayor Mobolade has communicated his top budget priorities for the coming year. These priorities will, of course, demand more of your money. He will also demand some departmental budget cuts, and taking $10 million from the city’s reserve funds. Here is a detailed copy of the aforementioned budget. Government budgeting is a one-way ratchet, folks.

  • Mayor Mobolade’s budget does contain one interesting line item: a 35% budget increase for his office. Interesting.

  • The Colorado state legislature wants to tax larger vehicles to fund more road dieting around the state. Their stated explanation is that larger vehicles are “more dangerous” to pedestrians and bicyclists. Their real reason is that they want to punish you if you drive a vehicle that they don’t like.

  • As a reminders, the State of Colorado will reward you with taxpayer money if you choose the transportation options they do like, such as electric cars or e-bikes.

  • Here is your weekly reminder that Proposition HH is a malevolent scam. Don't fall for it. Just remember, if it really was a tax decrease, they wouldn't need to put it on the ballot.

  • Also, as a reminder, Prop HH will negatively impact renters twice. Their rent will increase to cover the property tax increases, and they will no longer receive TABOR refunds. Food for thought.

  • Our friends at the Maverick Observer will be taking a hiatus for the remainder of the year.

  • Jon Caldara’s vagrant poop delivery at Denver City Hall has made national news. Can we just change the official name from Denver to Toilet City and be done with it?

  • Speaking of Denver, illegal alien arrivals have increased drastically in just a few days. Officials advertised Denver as a sanctuary city, and people took that seriously. One of those people is Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

  • Over 2.5 million Colorado residents live in high wildfire danger areas. Yet, infill development in those areas continues. Is this sustainable?

  • One local group is alleging voting irregularities in the April mayoral election. Is distrust in elections a regular feature of our politics now?

  • The City of Colorado Springs plans to end their decades-long vehicle maintenance contract, and bring vehicle maintenance in-house. This is cited as a cost-saving measure.

  • Governor Polis really wants his outrageously expensive and wildly impractical choo-choo train boondoggle. This will require billions of taxpayer dollars, and he’s looking for support from local governments.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
