Temple Israel Torah Center Digital Device Policy

Temple Israel Torah Center strives to create an environment where students can be fully present with their peers, teachers, and Jewish learning. Digital devices can be valuable tools but can also create distractions. Many synagogue religious schools, as well as Long Beach Unified School District and other school districts in the area, have introduced similar policies because phones can distract from learning and social interaction. To support focused learning and respectful participation, we have initiated a Digital Device Policy.

Please take a moment and familiarize yourself with our new Digital Device Policy that is linked here.

Community Events

About This Event

Join us for an afternoon celebrating the beautiful parallels between Latin and Jewish traditions of remembrance. This community-forward, family-friendly celebration welcomes all ages to explore how both cultures honor and remember loved ones who have passed.

Feel the vibrant colors and customs of Día de los Muertos come alive through mariachi and folklórico performances, and join us in building a community ofrenda to honor those we've lost. We'll also share Jewish traditions of remembrance, from placing stones at gravesides to lighting candles in observance of yahrzeit.

Through music, storytelling, and hands-on activities, we'll discover the universal language of love and memory that connects the Latino/e community, the Jewish community, and the Latin-Jewish community as one.

All families are welcome to celebrate these rich traditions together and to connect with a vibrant mercado of Latino and Jewish artisans, small businesses, and organizations.

Event Activities

Holiday-Themed Crafts: Create beautiful Día de los Muertos decorations and keepsakes to take home. From calaveras (skulls) to memory stones and marigolds to yahrzeit (memorial) candles, families will work together on meaningful crafts that honor loved ones.

  • Fast Facts about Keshet’s LGBTQ+ and Ally Teen Shabbaton Weekends:
  • All LGBTQ+ and ally Jewish teens ages 13-18 and in grades 7-12 are welcome.
  • We build in program spaces based on grade to foster connection between youth who are the same age.
  • The cost to attend is just $54, plus travel, thanks to our generous supporters.
  • We offer generous full and partial travel scholarships to assist with the cost of travel.
  • Many youth fly in from around the U.S. and Canada to participate in the Shabbaton. We arrange staffed private bus travel from nearby major airports. Location details are shared after registration for security purposes.
  • While some folks are returning participants, many come to the Shabbatonim not knowing anyone!
