Greetings!

2022 was a year of significant change for LifeWire—changes in leadership, capacity, and impact. LifeWire celebrated 40 Years of Service, completed the Hope Starts Here Capital Campaign, and moved to an innovative Co-Executive Director leadership model—allowing us to serve more domestic violence survivors now and in the future, on their path to greater safety, freedom, and healing.

Thank you for being part of our LifeWire community as we work together to end domestic violence. Your support makes a profound difference.

“Domestic violence is not only the number one criminal justice issue,
but the number one social issue in our country. It is a crime against the spirit.”
—the late Norm Maleng, former King County Prosecuting Attorney and DV champion

In the months to come, LifeWire will begin the important work of shifting to a collective leadership structure. Our hope is that by centering diverse perspectives, skills, and expertise across our organization, we will enhance our efforts to prevent and end violence in our community. We are confident that by fostering collective decision-making, the quality of our decisions and our services will lead to more effective and equitable opportunities for survivors and their children.

We will continue to work diligently to ensure that LifeWire Staff and Board more closely reflect the community we serve. We know that domestic violence can impact anyone from any age group, background, community, education level, economic level, culture, ethnicity, religion, belief system, ability, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We strive to respond to the needs of survivors by working to remove the barriers that prevent access to critical resources. LifeWire offers compassionate services and a sense of belonging during the most difficult time in the lives of anyone impacted by violence.

We work closely with our local and state-wide partners in the movement to prevent and end domestic violence. By strengthening our collective efforts, we can be strategic in our shared goals to offer advocacy, compassionate services, safety planning, and housing, so we can provide the scaffold for survivors to move from crisis to safety and healing. Your support makes an extraordinary impact at LifeWire, ensuring we can offer safety, security, and well-being for survivors and their children when they need it most.

In this newsletter, we celebrate highlights from 2022 and share with you what’s new as we plan for the year ahead. Your support makes a powerful difference. Thank you! Together, we can create a world in which every person’s humanity is seen, where they can live in a safe environment, and have the opportunity to thrive.

We completed the Hope Starts Here Capital Campaign!
We completed the Hope Starts Here Capital Campaign! From 2018 to 2022, LifeWire’s Board, Campaign Cabinet, and staff joined together with hundreds of generous donors to raise $15.75 million in private and public funds to purchase a 25-unit apartment complex and build a services office in one central location. The HSH apartments will provide emergency shelter, transitional housing, and comprehensive onsite services for survivors who face the greatest safety risks and highest barriers to safe housing in our community. Families will be moving in this summer!

Celebrate Women’s History Month with LifeWire!

Historically, women have been underrepresented in leadership roles due to various societal and cultural factors, including gender biases, stereotypes, and discrimination. Gender-based inequalities are addressed at LifeWire by promoting diversity and inclusivity at all levels. LifeWire is committed to the representation of women in leadership positions, and we are committed to breaking down gender-based barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential. We are proud of the talented women in all positions at LifeWire. We will continue to support and empower all people to be successful. This Women’s History Month, we would like to introduce you to LifeWire’s Directors.
Introducing Freddy Vega!
LifeWire Hires a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager
After intentional planning and collaboration between staff and the Board of Directors, LifeWire has created a full-time Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) manager role. In October 2022, LifeWire welcomed Freddy Vega to this leadership position! He is helping LifeWire to continue to build equitable space for internal staff in alignment with our core values and mission to uplift and support survivors of domestic violence on their journeys toward safety, stability, and healing.

"I am committed to LifeWire and its mission, which is one of the reasons I also joined the LifeWire Giving Society. Working with LifeWire has been rewarding to me personally and to my family. Through the knowledge I have gained and shared, we have been able to identify and refer friends who may be in unhealthy relationships to LifeWire.” -- Darryl
