UCP DSPs... Simply, the Best!

DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL Recognition Week—or DSP Week—is observed annually to nationally recognize the vital work of the dedicated professional caregiver workforce.

We invite you to join us as we take a moment to acknowledge the tireless efforts of UCP DSPs and celebrate the incredible achievements they make possible year after year in the lives of the individuals they support.

WHAT DSPs DO...

  • Provide a safe, secure, environment
  • Assist with developing new skills
  • Coordinate activities in the community
  • Provide assistance with daily living activities

WHAT DSPs REALLY DO...

Our DSPs help individuals...

  • Identify and pursue new interests
  • Nurture and develop relationships with their peers and people in the community
  • Actively participate in meaningful activities (volunteer or paid)
  • Feel a sense of belonging in the community

To acknowledge the hard work of our DSPs, Governor Josh Shapiro signed a Proclamation recognizing September 13-19 as Direct Support Professional Recognition Week in Pennsylvania.

UCP DSPs Share Their Stories

DSPs develop, nurture, and grow strong bonds with the individuals they serve. Oftentimes they are the greatest cheerleader and the person closest to the individuals they support. Each year at this time, UCP asks our DSPs to “share their story” and we, in turn, share their stories with our community stakeholders, so they too can appreciate their passionate work.

Read more below on what our DSPs have to say about why they love the incredible work they do, and "Why UCP" is the place for them!

Ana

"Seeing an individual's growth, witnessing the smiles on their loved ones' faces, and encouraging families that the services we provide truly make a lasting impact is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that I can help support, empower, and improve the quality of life for others is what inspires me every day"

Nicole

"There is no better feeling than knowing you've enriched someone's life... especially someone who others may overlook, disregard, or simply not understand. I'm given one of the most fulfilling jobs that a person can have."

Shirley

"I really want to help people enjoy an everyday life. I want to make a difference and help individuals become more independent and have an equal opportunity to live a happy and healthy life."

Julia

"My older sister, a nurse, suggested I would be good working with adults with disabilities... I was invited to spend time hanging out with the "clients" at the Alternatives Day Program for the entire day. As I prepared to leave that day, the clients were begging me to come back. So I did... and I stayed."
