Census Day is Wednesday!
Besides social distancing, what is the #1 most helpful thing everyone can do for our community this week?  Respond to the Census! If you already have, super. Now please tell everyone you know how incredibly important and easy it is.

Check out this quick video I created encouraging folks to respond to the Census . Ossining has historically been under-counted. That means, we are not accurately represented in our county, state and federal government, and we are not receiving our fair share of funding.

The 2020 Census will determine how many millions of dollars in funding will, or will not, come to Ossining for the next decade. PLEASE help spread the word about how critically important it is to respond.  Click here for lots of FAQs and links  to help answer any questions folks may have about Census2020.

Last week we held our first virtual public meeting. Click here to view the meeting on the Village's YouTube channel . We opened with a report from County Executive George Latimer updating us on the latest measures undertaken to slow the spread.

One of last week's agenda items that we discussed at length was proposals for a new approach to events which would involve an application, new insurance requirements, and a new fee structure. We are all looking forward to attending exciting events later in the year.

Wednesday Meeting
This week's legislative session will take place virtually. Click here to view the full agenda which includes a link to the Zoom meeting which will take place at our usual time of 7:30PM . We have invited Lindsay Farrell, the president and CEO of Open Door to join us for the start of the meeting. Ossining's Open Door is a Coronavirus testing location, and has undertaken a significant amount of outreach and education about the importance of social distancing. If you have questions you would like to have Ms. Farrell address during our meeting, you can email them to me in advance (gearity@villageofossining.org). The meeting will be recorded and shared on the Village's YouTube channel within a day.

It is critical that we continue to maintain social distancing. For essential workers, even with many extra precautions, going to work can be stressful like never before. Yet they persevere and keep our community going. Included on the front lines of keeping our village safe and operating, are the maintenance workers. They are dedicated to ongoing cleaning of all the work spaces for our municipal employees. There is a long list of people to be thankful for everyday who are keeping us safe, fed, and cared for.

This crisis challenges us to find new ways to connect. Our human inclination is to gather, but our mandate is to isolate. Being mindful of the contributions of so many helps us strengthen our community bonds. It's these connections that will help us get through this challenging moment.

With Regards,
Victoria Gearity, Ossining Mayor
Respond Today!
The US Constitution mandates that every person living in the country be counted every decade. Census2020 does not ask about a person's citizenship and individual responses are kept highly confidential. Respond today! Tell everyone you know to respond too!
