Students explore their faith through class retreats

Last week, Newark Catholic students took part in the school's annual class retreats, guided by the following questions:

Freshmen

Looking at the lives of the Saints and our different forms of prayer, how can we create and solidify a prayer life?

Sophomores

How can our understanding of the Eucharist deepen and draw us closer to Christ

Juniors

What is God calling us to in this life? Is God calling me to married life or religious life?

Seniors

How can I persevere in my faith after I graduate?

Reminder about new incentive for cafeteria volunteers!

We’re offering an incentive for those who volunteer in the cafeteria because we REALLY need the help! Families will earn a $10 lunch account credit for each shift they work! Shifts are 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Family and friends can volunteer on behalf of other families and students! It does not have to be parents/guardians volunteering on behalf of their own student(s). Anyone can earn credit for a student--grandparents, friends, aunts, etc.!

Before signing up, be sure to review our volunteer requirements.

Check out our brief video highlighting the top 5 reasons to volunteer in the cafeteria!

All About National Honor Society (NHS)

It's more than good grades! Application process starts in November.

Talk to your student about joining NHS! Membership demonstrates consistent academic performance, leadership, and community service—all qualities valued by colleges, universities, and career training programs.

What is NHS?

National Honor Society is a nationwide organization that recognizes outstanding high school students who demonstrate excellence in four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Who can join NHS?

Students can apply their sophomore year and will be inducted as a junior (or senior, depending on when they apply). Students must meet the GPA requirement (a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at Newark Catholic) and demonstrate leadership, service, and character.

How do you get into NHS?

Eligible students are invited to apply in November (with induction happening the following year after requirements are met). Those interested in learning more or applying can talk with Mr. Mummey. He will remind students about the application once it opens in November. As part of the application process, students must provide evidence of 30 hours of service and show leadership within the school/community.

Save the Date for our 2026 NHS Induction Ceremony, Nov. 20 at 2:20 p.m. at NCHS
