A message from Joanna Quigley | | |
Access to mental health care continues to be a huge challenge across our state. According to a recent report from Altarum, Access to Behavioral Health Care in Michigan, anxiety and depression were the most prevalent conditions and also the most likely to go untreated. Plus, as mental health care facilities in Michigan continue to close, more youth are being sent out of state for care.
How do we support mental health care delivery in primary care? An example of the power of consultation and collaboration between primary care and child and adolescent psychiatry lies in the findings of a paper that a group of colleagues and I published recently, showing that PCPs working directly with psychiatrists report greater confidence in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions.
MC3 gives providers an opportunity to quickly consult with psychiatrists for diagnostic clarification, medication and treatment recommendations, and connection to local resources. If you need additional insight on how to best support a patient, MC3 psychiatrists and Behavioral Health Consultants can help.
