Pastor Glen's focus for his message for

this upcoming weekend:

“If it is you …” Who else could it be Peter? Is it the blindness of the disciples or something about Jesus that makes it impossible to fully see, to completely trust in the one right before their eyes? The reward for Peter taking a risk is the chance to walk on the water with Jesus. The moment is short-lived, a little bit of wind take’s Peter’s feet right out from under him. But again and again he comes to us, with the promise we seek: “I am.”

This is the theme of the Sunday night message / Bible study for the 7:00pm Worship that will be this Sunday in the

Prayer Garden. This will be the last Sunday Evening Worship of the summer.

Bible study theme for August 13th: What’s at stake?

Literalism is a reaction to the challenges of the modern world. We are afraid of what “they” are doing to our church, to our faith. Turns out we are the ones doing the damage to the Word, giving up on most of what the Bible actually says for the sake of a few verses that are comfortable and self-reinforcing. In the meantime, we have missed out on so much, and we are less, the world is less, because of it.

Come and join us as we seek a simpler, more faithful,

and better way.

2023 Kickoff Party!

Let’s get the Fall started off right! There has been so much talk about having more fellowship time at FLC. Here is the answer. On Sunday, August 27^th, we will share a potluck lunch following the 10:15 service (about 11:30). The church will provide hotdogs and brats – bring a side dish to share. Come and reconnect as we launch into our fall ministry program.

LIFE NIGHT REGISTRATION!!

It's time to register for LIFE Night classes (3 yr olds - 5th grade) at FLC for this coming education year!  

Worship Lab will begin on August 23rd at 6:15pm.

LIFE Night classes will follow at 6:45pm (along with Confirmation).

Social Concerns Committee:

With school starting soon it is time for our annual BACKPACK PROMOTION--a fundraiser which supports the FOODBANK for the HEARTLAND--the organization which supplies packs filled with healthy food to take home for the weekend for chronically hungry elementary and middle school children in Blair. Look for the exhibit which will be in the narthex starting this Saturday, August 5 and through the month of August that will demonstrate what is included in these back packs. You will also receive flyers at the worship services on August 5 and 6 which will provide you with more information on ways to contribute to this worthy cause. One way in which you can do this is to send your contributions to Foodbank for the Heartland: Attn: Backpack Program, 10525 J Street, Omaha, NE 68127.  

FLC will be staffing the WASHINGTON COUNTY RECYCLING CENTER on Saturday, August 26. Sign-up sheets for volunteers will be available on August 5 and following  at the Welcome Center.  You may sign up for the whole morning or for 2 hours--8:00 to l0:00 A.M. or 10:00 A.M. to Noon. This offers us an opportunity to be good stewards of our environment. And a huge thank you goes to all FLC members who staff the Recycling Center every week!  

Our SUMMER GARDEN MARKET is now OPEN!  You are invited to share your excess garden produce, your flowers, and your baked goods! Please give generously for what you purchase, as proceeds will go to ELCA WORLD HUNGER. Produce may be brought to the church and placed on the Garden Cart in the narthex any time when the church is open--preferably prior to 3:00 P.M. on Fridays and between 4:00 and 7:00 P.M. on Saturdays.

Pastor Glen's Bible Study-

Breaking The Code, A Study of the Book of Revelation

Started on Wednesday, June 28th

You are invited to a new Bible Study with Pastor Glen titled Breaking The Code, A Study of the Book of Revelation. It started on Wednesday, June 28th at 6:30pm. You can attend in person or online with Google Meet. The Bible Study will take place in the Chapel.

The Bible Study will be for 8 weeks.

In the next several months it is our goal to educate the congregation on the

activities of the Committees at First Lutheran. We will plan to highlight the

activities of one of these committees each month. In doing this we will plan two separate activities for each committee. These include:

1. A presentation by the committee chair person or representative of the

committee to the Church Council regarding the committee’s activities. This

would include the goals of the committee, who makes up the committee,

what some of the activities of committee are, and how the Church Council

could assist the committee in their work.

2. Following the presentation to the Council, a short summary of the

committee’s activities will be included in the weekly E-Blasts sent to the

congregation.

The goal of this summary again will be to highlight the activities of the committee and hopefully increase the interest in the committees by the congregation and possibly help In the recruitment of the members to the committees.

Communion Update:

Thank you for helping with this accommodation for Pastor Glen: because it is difficult for Pastor to bring communion to members in the pews, if you find it physically difficult to come forward during communion, we invite you to pick up the communion elements as you come into the Sanctuary and receive them during the communion liturgy when the Pastor indicates.
