What Every Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Should Know about Long COVID

As experts in disability, employment, and rehabilitation, Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRCs) are uniquely positioned to help individuals navigate the complex and often unpredictable challenges of Long COVID.

From addressing functional limitations and identifying workplace accommodations to supporting independence and quality of life, CRCs bring the specialized expertise needed to help people move forward.

But as Long COVID continues to reshape how individuals experience disability, every CRC needs to be prepared to understand its impacts and respond to the evolving needs of the people they serve.

Our newest course at CRCC eUNIVERSITY, Long COVID: Rehabilitation Counseling, Functional Impact, and Vocational Support, is designed to address this evolving challenge and strengthen every CRC's ability to deliver effective, client-centered rehabilitation services to this unique population.

Like every CRCC eUNIVERSITY course, this course automatically uploads to your CE report upon completion and is eligible for five (5) general credit hours for CRCs and CVEs.

UMASS Boston Students Highlight CRCC as a Leader in the Rehabilitation Counseling Profession

CRCC would like to recognize four students in UMASS Boston's Rehabilitation Counseling MS program:

Rasheeda Brown Francis

Stephany Pallazolla

Joshua Mauro

As part of their Rehab 611 course, the group presented on CRCC as a professional organization within rehabilitation counseling. They shared information about CRCC's offerings, including its role as a certification body and a resource for professional support and development.

The group stated that "CRCC has its finger on the pulse of everything involved in becoming and staying a CRC." It also shared information on CRCC initiatives to support certified professionals, including continuing education, advocacy, and leadership.

CRCC cultivates strong relationships with universities and students to ensure every professional entering the next chapter of their career sees how certification can strengthen their skills, demonstrate their expertise, and open doors to new opportunities.

We're grateful to the students and their professor, Dr. James Soldner, CRC, for taking time in their coursework to highlight why CRC certification is the gold standard in rehabilitation counseling.

CRCC recognizes UMASS Boston as a Center of Excellence for its commitment to preparing the next generation of Certified Rehabilitation Counselors.

In Your Words: CRC Letters to the Commission

The September 2026 renewal deadline closed last month. As part of the renewal cycle, CRCs can enter Retirement Status, an honorary designation recognizing service to the rehabilitation counseling profession and individuals with disabilities.

Carla Sweet, a CRC for over 25 years, wrote CRCC to share her sentiments on her retirement status and time in the field:

"To the Commission, board members, and all CRCs,

As I acknowledge and accept retirement of my CRC, I am proud of my Honorary CRC designation. The CRC credential afforded me the privilege of serving disabled veterans and those who needed guidance with rehabilitation services. I appreciate the opportunity to make a positive difference and have been committed and dedicated to care for all I met.

During my career, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experiences that I will apply throughout my lifetime. It has been my utmost pleasure to be have been a Certified Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Counselor.

I have written and published a book "Bloom: A Counselors Perspective of Life." I am working on next book about life in West Virginia .

I will continue to roam the countryside on our 30 acres; and relax with husband and animals.

In closing , I like to thank you for allowing me serve and offer quality rehabilitation services to the vast amount of individuals that need help."

CRCC extends a heartfelt thank you to Carla for her years of service, and to all CRCs who work toward equity and opportunity for individuals with disabilities every day.
