If you have a 97 through 08 Boxster, Cayman or 911 996 or 997 model, replacing the IMS bearing or removing the grease seal off the original IMS bearing if you have the larger non-serviceable 06-08 bearing isn’t the only thing you need to do.
You should also consider replacing the water pump and thermostat as well as the rear main seal, oil fill tube, and AOS (and associated AOS vent tubes) as part of preventative maintenance. Most Porsche mechanics recommend replacing these items every 4-6 years.
If you have a 97-02 Boxster or 99-01 996 with the 5-chain M96 engine, the variocam wear pads along with the 4th and 5th chains need to be replaced if your cam timing deviation is over 4 degrees. You can check your camshaft timing deviation with a Durametric.
