The Honest Elections Action League of Oregon (HEAL) endorses Brian Setzler for Portland City Auditor.

The City Auditor is the official in charge of enforcing the strong campaign contribution limits and funding disclosure requirements in the Portland City Charter adopted by over 87% of Portland voters in Measure 26-200 in 2018. But requirements are only as strong as the enforcement.

The current City Auditor (who is not running for re-election) created loopholes and excuses for not enforcing the laws we voters adopted, including the limits on campaign contributions (only $500 per person and none from corporations) and the requirement that advertisements about candidates (including so-called "independent expenditure" ads by dark money entities) identify their top five major funders and their main sources of money.
Brian's only opponent in this election failed to comply with existing campaign finance disclosure requirements. Willamette Week wrote on April 13 an article entitled, Portland City Auditor Candidate Dinged for Late Campaign Finance Filings. In late March, 79% of Ms. Rede's transacted funds were filed late. The Secretary of State will issue penalties for those 33 late filings--but after this election is over.
