This “tale as old as time” tells the story of Belle, a bright and independent young woman taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved in return, and if Belle can see the true heart and soul of the beast within, the curse will end and he and the enchanted inhabitants of his castle will be transformed back into their former selves. But time is running out and he and his household could be doomed for all eternity.

SIXTH GRADE EXCAVATES HISTORY IN ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT
The sixth grade class recently held its annual archaeological dig, which enriches and supports their study of ancient civilizations in Ms. Armstrong's class.

To prepare for this exciting culminating activity, students have examined the recurring patterns and themes of religion, government, daily life, and cultural contributions beginning with prehistory and continuing through the fall of the Roman Empire, all from the perspectives of a historian, anthropologist, and archaeologist.

Four teams of students were given the opportunity to create and bury artifacts that represent a specific ancient civilization. Then, each team was tasked with finding and excavating these artifacts, while carefully recording data and ultimately identifying the civilization to which the artifacts belonged.
EIGHTH GRADE HOSTS LIVELY CUBA & JUSTICE FAIR
For the culminating project of this quarter's interdisciplinary theme of justice, eighth grade students planned a multi-layered celebration of Cuban culture that took place in the Middle School Quad yesterday. The festivities kicked off with festive group and solo salsa dancing by the eighth grade students. Afterward, students and guests enjoyed learning about justice and Cuba at colorful and creative booth displays. Guests also took salsa lessons and tasted traditional Cuban churros.

In addition, guests learned about influential Cubans, enjoyed the "Realm of Justice Amusement Park" inspired by Old Town Havana and Cuban UNESCO World Heritage sights, played chess in homage to Cuba's strong chess culture, and explored the worlds of Cuban sports and music.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION AND DRESS DOWN DAY IS TOMORROW, 4/21!
Ms. Butler has planned a wonderful Friday afternoon for our students as we celebrate Earth Day together. Along with the festival, students will enjoy Dress Down Day and may wear clothing that showcases Earth colors and themes. Students will participate in 12 stations of activities, including a beekeeper, bike blender, guests from Heal the Ocean, and the UCSB climbing tower! We also look forward to welcoming some of our Middle and Upper School students as helpers for this special event.

Please note that school will end at its regular time with carline, bus transportation, and after-school sports.

SIGNED WAIVER: In order for your student to enjoy the climbing tower, please return the waiver that your child received (emailed and hard copy) this week if you have not yet done so. Your child will NOT be able to climb the tower unless we have the waiver in our files before the event.
